***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Mine are 3 weeks. It looks like I have a hen and a roo

if they are silked cohins it would be neat to see if they breed true, that would be a cool breeding project.

My NN dark-egg layer eggs are all accounted for. I set 7 and got 4 chicks, but one is a French Maran rather than a NN

. I understand that Marans were used in the project cross to make a NN that will lay dark, dark eggs, but by this point all the babies should be NNs.

I hatched one black chick with a white head spot (male?)


I hatched one black chick with no head spot (female?)


I hatched one buff NN chick. What a beautiful little NN

And the last chick is a French Maran. I hope, at least, that it turns out to be a pullet.

Cuckoo Marans and barred rocks hatch with white head spots.

Here she is with the other chicks do you still think she looks big for a bantam? (other chicks are a silkie and a millie D'uccle)

It looks like a frizzled cochin to me... Just a thought...

I only have a .22 semi automatic rifle at this time. Dad is supposed to be on look out.

That is what I used for predator control. I am looking into getting a 22 pistol so I can use the same ammo at my rifle and it would be easier to carry while working outside..

I've thought about that too. I have a .380 ACP but it has more kick than I like. I'll need to get a higher powered rifle to get them at a distance. I think I hit it as it made a noise after my second shot but that didn't slow it down as it sprinted away.

I have never seen one except Rachel that belongs to the chicken chick, and her feathers are just curled back like most frizzles but i did find this photo and it looks like her so i'm think you may be right. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/33037/bantam-chickens/10 the white ones look so different than the red ones and the one's in this photo look like they have silked feathers like mine.
