***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Wow, how long have I not posted for? Geepers.

We have a lot going on. Our goat is very preggers at the moment but we aren't sure of an official due date yet. We just keep watching her for signs. Meanwhile our male goat keeps climbing over the fence into her paddock. And we went to the feed store on a Wednesday which of course meant bringing home ... more chicks. We're not even sure what kind we have but I think they're buffs plus one little cochin bantam that I think is going to be a frizzle. It's feathers are sticking out all over instead of laying flat.

In the meantime we are rebuilding what was our garage into a barn with a grow out pen, a milking station, and a stall for the baby goat and mama at night.

Asparagus is finally coming up along with peas and lettuce. The blackberries are leafed out and the peach tree, plum tree, and currant bushes are fully loaded with blooms. The apple trees are just now starting to leaf out thankfully. Unlike last year where they bloomed in March and then froze.

I've become a full time writer this spring so I'm home all day on the computer but I'm writing stuff so I don't end up on the web much. Hope everyone is keeping well.
What you writing? I'm a librarian. I <3 writers!

i just did my taxes. I'm crying. I need a hug.
I'm not kidding.

Keep up your faith. A good cry always seems to help. I'll send u another hug in a little bit. I hear a dog crying out in the rain

You probably have talked about this already, but what kind of incubator is it? I would lose that puppy as soon as possible. Costly, yes, but not worth the heartbreak you've been going through - especially since you are working so hard on your project.

Fingers crossed for the rest.

At least you know about the problem and are good at dealing with it.

It is a brinsea

Does your NNs not want to brood? Ours were always ready to set a nest no matter what time of year. The Orientals are good hatchers too. I have three of them sitting nests now.

I have 3 proven broodies, but none interested right now, and I needed to set these eggs before having to split my boys up (rehome) before they hurt each other.

I am just sick tonight.... Merlin managed to get one of the grow pens open this afternoon and I can't even think about all the dead and injured birds I've been dealing with for the last hour, all about 8-12 weeks old and most of the dead ones are girls.... I know you guys understand.... praying I let him LIVE through puppyhood.... he's been bored because of the rain/cold and no one to play with and that makes him destructive...

Sadly I know how you feel, it is so much worse when it is your own dog that does it.

loriemarler...did you get your coop finished during Spring break...just saw your thread.

Cathiesue...on the bright side, at least you are done for another year. :hugs
Tax time is always a killer for us....keeping two 13 column ledgers is a pain during the year, but pays off in January when I start the prep for our taxes. I keep one on the farm which includes the chickens, farm expenses and farm equipment. The other ledger is for the cattle operation expenses since Roger and his brother run cattle together. Then I add our half of the cattle operation to the farm ledger for our tax person. We got ours filed mid March. I'm already sorting receipts for the ledgers for next year. I'm behind...I like to do it twice a month.
