***OKIES in the BYC III ***

At 12 lbs and still cutting teeth and suckling, guess doxy mix is out of the question! lol (since my doxy is 11 lbs full grown)

I'm thinking that doxy mix is not as good as the others for chickens. It really looked long and short to me though - maybe basset/dobie?.... that would be a fun mix!

I need some guinea eggs for hatching! I have this brand new Brinsea that just arrived yesterday sitting here all empty and sad ;-) I'm trying to find some close enough to pick up so I dont have to put any eggs at the mercy of USPS. Does anybody know of anyone in south central or southwest OK that sells them?

I thought basset but no ears he is great with the chicks he goes everywhere i go

Kass, I went to bed with plenty of water in mine, but had just added new grain, and the next morning (and it was one of the recent warm mornings) the grain had absorbed the water to the point where it was exposed. I wouldn't expect it to start that much of a bacterial growth that quickly, but I haven't been able to find any other reason for whatever happened to my chickens. I know I also have something respiratory going around right now, but I figure that's just seasonal, because the two issues don't seem to be related and the respiratory is pretty low level. I would have guessed she choked on an object, but not that multiple birds would choke on an object in exactly the same way within a day of each other.

Right now they're on Tylan and being wormed. And getting treats. Lots of treats.

I couldn't keep up with fermenting with as many birds as I have. But they loved the wet stuff so much I had to come to a compromise. So now I fill 2 5gal buckets with 1/3 scratch and 2/3 layer pellets and fill it with water all the way to the top and feed it. They love it just as much and still drink tons less water this way. I got tired of the mess and the gray film across the top if i'd forget to stir it often enough. It looked like gray mold and I'd always end up dumping out the whole batch.
It's awful heavy lugging it around but they sure like it.

do you free range any I feed 68 birds 1 gallon of fermented feed twice daily.

Just having one flock who eat in a single location makes it much easier for sure. Our bucket is w/I feet of where we feed out. One bucketful lasts us a few to several weeks. It would be much harder w/ all your numbers and locations.

@Kyzmette sorry about the issues you have had w/ the feed.

They're in different 50'-75' yards and 10x10 pens so not any real free-ranging. I think there's close to 200 counting the bantams. I was feeding 2 5 gal buckets a day, still am actually but it's wet instead of fermented now. Unfortunately I'm one of those people who overdoes everything. If it's worth doing it's worth over-doing :-/
