***OKIES in the BYC III ***

In five gallon buckets. Fill several with warm ...not hot...water deep enough for your bird to stand comfortably up to it's neck. Let the bird soak in one while you comb thru and swish water thru the body feathers , wings and tail. You should see lice/mites begin floating on the water surface.

Rinse in a second bucket and while the bird is standing on a table or the ground, put a dollop of shampoo in your palm and begin working the shampoo thru the feathers. Focus on the down feathering around the butt and belly. Work suds thru the tail wings and back and around the neck.
Use warm water to flush the soap out of the feathers .
In a third bucket rinse the bird swishing water thru the feathers.
Use another bucket of water for rinsing until you see no more soap.
You can use a little vinegar in the water to cut the soap.

In a final bucket, I like to use Adams dip to the final rinse water. If the outside temps are warm, the bird can air dry in a cage. Or if not, towel dry and then use a blow dryer.

So how much flea dip to the five gallon bucket of water?

I use a tsp per gallon and more than one bird can be dipped in the final bucket

MaryJo..so sorry to hear about your hen.

I lost one of my pretty 2013 Columbian Wyandotte hens this morning. I had her in a cage and was boosting her probiotics and watching her diet. She was sporting a red comb and acting well, but I just didn't like the looks of her crop and breath. She was not impacted or a true sour crop so I didn't flush her crop.
She was pinching off a good poop loaf yesterday evening so I was expecting to see a bird eager for her feed this morning.

Going to work in the garden today planting peonies and flower seeds in the ends of some of the beds. I really enjoy flowers in my garden boxes because they add color but also because the bees and hummingbirds frequent the garden.

O
@BetsyOK is who you want to get silkies from.

Bantam cochins......@mjgigax has them and I know a lady that goes to the pryor swap that breeds them. I can PM her name if Pryor area is doable for you.

@mjgigax
I want some too! PM me if you have some babies available after little_hen gets some!

Thank you!
@mjgigax
 has very beautiful birds! Do you know if they have a website? Or would I have to meet them somewhere to buy chickens?
Also, do you know if @BetsyOK
 has pictures of her birds or a website?

Send them a PM to see what they have.

I just picked up some appleyard ducklings in vinita from a 4H girl running her own poultry business. She has mottled and lavender barred bantam cochins. I'll post her Facebook page later. She let me hold the mottled cock bird and he was lovely. I'm going to get some lavender barred chicks later.

I've found things like that in my vacuum and gathering in clumps under my bed! :D
