***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Not a clue. Just saw a Mohawk and guessed
it looks a lot like a SFH I have.

It wasn't cooperating for a picture.

I'm glad everyone had a good time at POOPS. I wanted to go but wore myself out before hand. I need to learn how to pace myself so I can go to events. Everyone did an excellent jov as far as I can see without being there.
@Poco Pollo I'm really interested in buying some diapers from you if you have more. We usually go to Tulsa weekly and went today and will do so again Wednesday, so let me know.
@Kyzmette I've really been having a hard time getting any chicks from Floyd. The hen sat on the first btch and ws very faithful, but for some reason they didn't hatch. I put some in the incubtor and most of them were yolkers. I don't know why he breeds them constantly. m Anyway, his first chick hatched yesterday in the incubator and more pipping, The bad news is this little guy or girl can't stand up. The legs aren't splayed so I don't know what to think. It just topples over. The leg muscels don't seem strong enough. I fed it poly vo sol and egg yolk and have it in a cup, but don't think I'm doing it right. I hate to cull the poor little thing. It has a lot of spunk otherwise,. I need help, please. Here are some pics.

It's toes aren't crooked. It just looks like it in some of the pics because we didn't stand it up properly. suxh a little cutie. Already has muffs and a beard, so I'm thinking female. I've noticed the boys don't usually have them right away. I hate to vent sex. It's so tiny I don't want to hurt it. One day, I'll be able to do it though.

It's probably a congenital defect and you can't "fix" it, if the poly-vi-sol and egg yolk aren't helping. So sorry. If he breeds the hens all the time- could he be "shooting blanks?" Some roosters are infertile or have low fertility just as humans. Or are the hens particularly "fluffy" in the rear end- preventing him from making contact?

I know heat negatively affects rabbit bucks (renders them practically infertile) could that be the case with chickens?

I'm confused about the information I'm finding on broody hens. I've got one that's been like that for about a week. I just keep going out there and shooing her out of the nesting box. Is there something simple I can do? How long will this last? I don't want chicks right now and I'm worried about Susie Q's health.

@hotcurltr that looks like spraddleleg to me. There's all sorts of theories about why it happens, but it's pretty easy to correct. I've found sports tape is the best... that fabric that sticks to itself that the doctor wraps your arm in after they take blood. You cut a short strip to wrap around each leg, then a longer strip that goes around both legs and holds them the correct length apart. It can correct overnight like that if you catch it fast enough.

I'm not sure why you're not getting fertile eggs, because he was a love machine with my hens. Several of his girls are just now getting old enough to be chased by Orlando and Einstein. I just farmed out several of his boys, and one of them was velociraptor size; he'll feed a family and provide sandwiches on saturday.

Okay, you guys tell me what you think. This is Marshmallow... Toasted Marshmallow. I've been convinced she's a she, and I think it's become apparent. Am I wrong?

And just because, I have to show off my Einstein! I know he's not perfectly colored, but I think he's gorgeous!

sounds like it could be a nutrition deficiency in the flock...what are they eating (not yours, the poster you quoted in this).

Not sure what perfectly colored is but Einstein is gorgeous and I love the gold on him.

@hotcurltr , even if it isn't typical splay legs I would treat like Kyzmette said just like it was, and put in a standing position in a cup or Dixie cup or something like that, if it's legs are to weak to hold it up, but it is feisty it's legs may just need extra training to get strong and hold the standing postion. I had to do that w/ Rudy.
