***OKIES in the BYC III ***

i have a love hate relationship with chicken math! you guys are posting all these awesome birds an i am limiting what i have! Argggg!

My husband put a pencil to it a week ago.....we go through 1000 lbs/month in chicken feed (sounds like a lot but it's only 20 bags). With around 200 birds counting chicks it only costs $1.25/month per bird to feed each one. That's it!
How's that for chicken math??
Oh, and I forgot to add-there's not a bird on this place that isn't worth well over $1.25/month to me

I wish I had the space for all these chickens on my dreaming of list. I just feel like I must have some marans and speckled sussex and at least 1 ameraucana.

I may be rehoming some cochin pullets (all mine are from show quality stock) if I can get my hands on some other kinds. I don't know though, they're so sweet and my kids really love them.

I think I should have researched breeds more.

Edited cause I sound like I'm complaining about these sweet little pullets. I just didn't realize all the breeds out there when I started out. Im excited to get some swedish flower hens, but thats gonna be the max for number of birds I want in that run.
