***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Awwww.....little boys are sooooo sweet!

Candled the 14 Serama eggs from DHep and there are nine nicely developing embryos. I pulled one blood ring. Left 4 possible clears until I candle them again on day 10....just in case I missed something. Granddaughter is already so excited. She called me earlier this evening to see if I had candled them.

Fine chopped a cabbage head for the flock this evening. ...They went nuts...even the little chicks were in on the act...looked like an ant swarm on a caterpillar.
Tomorrow they get the processed plum waste from today's canning session and the rind from a huge cantaloupe. I also have some baseball bat sized cucumbers for them.

People have done things for me, I only try to repay them the only way I know how-by trying to do things for others.
I know....Maybe Arlo can have a rooster run in the spring. Between capons I have now and the ones I'll be doing over the next 7 months or so there should be lots for him to pick from, we'll know for sure by then which ones are full capons. I'll let him pick out some to put in his Rooster Run. Can he be patient that long? That way he can have all the good things about roosters like their long pretty feathers, but he won't have to worry about them breeding the hens (it looks so violent, I know) or fighting with each other.
And tell him his ducks are very very talkative lol My daughter heard them from the front yard in the driveway and thought it was a dog barking that couldn't bark right lol I love their voices. Every night when I lock them up they gripe and crab and carry on to each other really loud while I'm walking away. They have 10 times the personality my 3 ducks do. Did I tell you I put my 3 in another yard? Mine kept chasing Arlo's out of the pool that 2nd day. My husband told me, "You've got to do something about that, I don't want anything happening to that little boy's ducks!" lol
I don't think I'll ever be hungry enough to eat my little buddies. I keep thinking I'll be able to process roosters I didn't raise but I don't think I can even do that.

I'm sure they'll be fine together, and they're both really pretty. I think all of them are, my little FlowerEEs!

I'm actually kind of tickled you didn't choose my favorite, Spanky. Some of them are getting a crest from Orlando, and Spanky has that one little stand of feathers sticking up. I think it's adorable.

@hotcurltr I would LOVE to see Floyd babies!
Yea they are all cute. I just kinda went for colors I haven't seen before. They look fun! I can't wait to watch them feather out.

yes, very talkative. They have to give you the minute by minute play by play of everything that has happened and everything that's going to happen...Every time they see you.
I miss them so much :(

Awww so sweet your husbands looking out for them.

And Geo has ALWAYS been a talker. Nonstop. I really think ducks are hilarious. So much sass. Maybe its the waddle??? Geo used to put her head down and run super fast across the yard, does she still do that? It was so fun to watch. The silkies thought she was crazy, except for one little sizzle rooster that wouldn't leave her side.
And I think some capons for Arlo would be a good idea, he can certainly wait. He only thinks he's the boss around here

Really tho, I have to get these runs made for the current girls. DH and I finally settled on a design. Simple but perfect and easy to add onto if I need to.

Im so sorry. I know we cried so much when we said bye to Geo. I haven't met the others yet but Im sure it wasn't easy to say goodbye to any of them.

Ksane is without a doubt a very very kind person. My son keeps making things for her because she's the bestest duck sitter ever.

@Ksane he mentions you throughout the day and always says "I wonder how our ducks are doing, I know they're happy" its sweet. He knows you're sweet. And he's really pushing for a rooster run

I told him maybe in the future but I can't promise anything. We have so much on our plates now. (Its really tempting to make a rooster on a plate joke here but my inner Arlo says no!

)

And I agree, its so hard to eat these guys. I need to get better at it or admit defeat. I might be more capable if my son didn't cry for weeks afterwards. It just doesn't feel worth it. Its heartbreaking. He remembers every rooster we've ever had. The only one he was ok with us culling was a very very mean one. Once Arlo saw him attacking the girls and stealing food from them he was on board, but he still cried. My sweet sensitive boy.

Awwwww!

Got our new big pen finished this week and covered it yesterday. Today we need to put up the gates and fix the roosts inside the coop, and next week I will paint it. We got the coop on Craigslist for a very good price. Someone on FB told me we have the cinderblocks the wrong way for strength so we will fix that before we do anything else to the building.

This is my stage 1 baby pen and it is adjacent to the new pen, so we covered them both together.

Today is the Capon Clinic! Exciting!
