***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Plant ID geniuses, can you please weigh in? These are growing wild on my property, and I was agog to find the first.

Does this look like cherry? I found a patch of these while clearing some brush in a secluded spot.

And this is on trees all over the place back there.

I would have to agree with the wild plums, and of course the Sumac. Here is a youtube vid about the sumac if you might be interested. I found it informative. If you are allergic to the poison white berried variety, then you might not want to try the suggested sumac drink. Nice to have the plums though.

Yes, both plants were identified.

For jamelly from the plums, set them out to fully ripen...the redder the better the color. I cut off blemishes as I wash them and remove the stems. Bring to a boil with only one cup of water to two gallons of plums. Turn off your pot and let them poach in their juices. I use a potato masher to loosen the skins and then run the cooked plums thru a ricer. You could use a colander and a wooden spoon. I like the pulp in the jamelly. If you don't then hang them in cheese cloth or a clean cotton square. The juice makes a beautiful jelly. Use the Surejell recipe for plum.
