***OKIES in the BYC III ***

It's been five days since I've been on the thread. I've been busy at school, and will be busy all weekend with the grandkids.

Here are a few pictures I took when I got home from work today. This is Hercule's first daughter. All the rest of his chicks have been boys : \ Kass: Am I right in thinking this is a girl?

The goose called a meeting. I was not invited.

Dusti: Look at the fluffy tufts on the side of the drake's head. I may have to call him Curly.

Mitzi: Leon is a doll. He is attentive to his silkie girls. Such a gentleman.

Dusti: Remember the cheesy nest box I got at the Coweta auction? It's working great. I think I may make some more, but I don't plan to use six thousand screws on mine : 0

MJ: The Black-tailed Buff Marans are laying well. The hens still don't like to be handled, but the roos don't mind being picked up. They are putting on some weight, and it's probably becuase they are the first to race over and grab treats from me when I visit their pen.

Here's yet another pic of a baby barnevelder. They seem to be coming one right after another. One will pip and stay that way a long time and then pop it comes out all of a sudden and while it dries the next one pips. Lol

So you're moving yours to a brooder? My silkie is definitely pecking the ground in the incubator and I just feel so sad for him, but he doesn't have any friends yet. I was hoping the next one would hatch overnight and I could move the 2 in the morning. How do you maintain humidity and get them out? I have others pipped so I I'm afraid to mess with it.

Ashley, run a paper towel or 2 under hot water and squeeze them so they're barely dripping. Then open it really quick and grab the baby and eggshell if it's in reach and drop the paper towels in there.
I've done it many many times that way and it'll work fine. The warm paper towels shoot any lost humidity right back up again.

Yes I've been moving them when they dry or are mostly dry. I did the exact thing Ksane said. I soaked a paper towel in warm water and tossed it in. There's still about 10 eggs left in the bator.

OK, Ill plan on scooping him up (and hopefully at least 1 more) tomorrow morning. I must admit its hard not getting him now. I just want to hold the tiny thing and poor Arlos so upset he still doesn't have a friend.

Oh hey-I did get another Guinea Pig last night. Seems no one wants the males of that species either. the 1st 2 are named Biggie Piggie & Piggie Smalls (after the rap star Biggie Smalls ;-D) and this one is Punky Piggie cuz he has a mohawk like a punk rocker.
I have a hard time acting my age. It shows, huh?

It won't hurt to do it now, I would. If you've got the brooder or a heating pad ready he'll go right to sleep when he's warm. I can't wait for Arlo to hold his very 1st hatched baby!

Well the other one is zipping along and will probably hatch within the hour, so Im gonna wait until he's done.
