***OKIES in the BYC III ***

How old are these guys? My frizzle didn't show up until he was probably three weeks old or more. We didn't even try for one. He happened to be the lone chick in a bantam pen at the feed store and we felt sorry for him and took him home. Now he's a toot, running around like he owns the place.

Ive heard someone else say the same thing, all the frizzles/sizzles Ive ever had have had REALLY clear wing curling by 1 week. My 3 week old sizzles look like they were electrocuted

So, I am thinking there are definitely no frizzled.

Any gue. es on their final coloring? I am also pretty certain that there are two black ones. (I hope one is male and the other female.) The bantam (smaller one in pic of two) I am guessing is partridge. The rest may be too, although one is more grey/silver and one is considerably lighter.

I'll seriously make a bet on these 2 blacks being a male and a female. They're just beautiful! Look at the stance on the bigger one, chest out with his head up. And the 2nd one has her head pulled down and doesn't look on guard. I know I said you can't tell Cochin sexes for sure til 4 wks or so....but you have a good idea way before then.

@Ksane Thanks! That's exactly what I thought about the black ones. "He" even charges my finger a little when I point. "He" also has a more pronounced comb.

Yes they are Croad Langshan. There two main types are Croad Langshans and German Langshans. Almost all of the birds in the US trace back to the Croad Langshan line, which is named after British Major Croad who imported some Langshans from China in the late 1800s and was huge in helping with their conservation efforts. Some of the eggs can have a pinkish or even plum tinted bloom. Not an actual egg color- just the bloom. I have 3 hens, two lay brown and one lays definitely pinkish brown. No plum though. The breeder I got the birds from says she gets about 40% of her hens to lay plum bloom so I was hopeful. The roosters come from the same breeder so if they carry it I may still get some in a subsequent generation. I know technically it's not part of the breed to breed for that but I like it.

How many birds? I use safeguard paste, a peasize for each bird and again in ten days
