? Can one bad egg make the rest of the eggs go bad? Here's what happened on a clutch of 20 eggs one egg had hairline crack I missed a and it went bad so I took it out the next day they all were bad.

YES it absolutely can. The bacteria can be passed to the other eggs. Not common for it to infect them ALL but it can happen. Sorry.

@greenbeetle the only thing i'd add would be the oystershell, if you don't all ready. And on cold mornings mine get hot oatmeal... but really sounds like you are doing great!

I see people asking about "chicken math", so here's how I broke it down for my friends and family that think I have a "problem"...

Follow this guide to figure out how many chickens you have...
Free chickens don't count
Chicks don't count as they are just fast outdoor dust bunnies
Hens that aren't laying don't count...chickens lay eggs
Roosters don't count because, again, chickens lay eggs
Ornamentals don't count as they are just lawn decor...think plastic pink flamingos
Bantams don't count because they are just big chicks, and chicks are just fast outdoor dust bunnies
A meat bird counts as a negative 1 (-1) because once sent to freezer camp, you have to replace it
Laying hens count as half a chicken because they are basically just a storage facility for eggs ....
so I have 3 chicks, 5 roos, 4 laying hens, 1 male guinea (not a chicken and is male so roo?), a set of ducks (not chickens), 8 ladies in waiting...so I only have 2 chickens...wait, 3 of those roos will go to freezer camp soon, so that would equal out to I have -1 chickens...so I need to buy 2 more just to have one chicken, right?

Hey y'all. Still looking for a black or blue silkie hen or group for my daughters 10th birthday. Pet quality is Fine. So if any of y'all have any ideas Please let me know. I Also Got a call From my uncle in California, and he would like me to add an laying EE hen (or the other breed I cannot spell Lol ) that lay colored eggs, to our flock as a surprise for his little son when they arrive for Thanksgiving week.

I am in the Stroud area so if anyone can help or has any ideas or contacts. Please let me know. I would sure appreciate it.

The background on my chickens, guineas, and turkeys is that my uncle an oklahoma farm Boy has two city kids in LA so he is expanding my farm, to benefit our kids and his. So i was kind of thrown into the fire, But I am crazy in love with the birds . But that is why I am trying to find a colored egg layer. Peace.

ROFL!!!! that's awesome! !! I have never seen chicken math in such depth that someone ends up with -1 chickens! Thats great! Lol apperently I have no chickens! All mine are either free, roos, bantams or not laying yet!

you question on feed for your Cochins and large birds...feeding 15% crumbles with BOSS and Cracked corn as treats...

Layer pellets are an all round feed for your flock. Big birds need calcium as they grow their skeletons...Cochins males can take two years to attain full growth. the corn and BOSS is good. As long as your birds are healthy and feel plump and full meated you are okay.
I like to add wheat, oats to the mix ...sometimes soaked over night ...sometimes just tossed as treats.
Vitamins can be given in water or over the soaked feed.


I see the surgeon today and find out when therapy starts. Have had quite a bit of pain...to be expected
Hubby has been doing a great job on the feed and water schedule. Lost one hen yesterday. She was egg-bound....hubby said she was lethargic the day before but moving around. I'll make more trips outside to help keep an eye on things.
