***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I got 6 amerucana eggs that will hatch into olive eggers. I candled today and 4 are growing good and everything looks normal. 2 of them though looks like the air sack is on the side. Anything I can do? Will they hatch?? What causes this?

found one with a small pip can see the beak inside how do i assist in hatching?

This may be late, sorry, been canning thawed freezer meat all day. Chip the shell away carefully, you will see 2 membrane layers the outer white tough one, and the inner clear (or white if it is shrink wrapped) the inner one has blood vessel and you need to be extra careful of tearing it where the vessels still have blood. Chip away shell, gently pull away white outer membrane, moisten the inner membrane, gently ease it (a warm wet qtip is good for this) if you see blood stop let it rest in the incubator for a bit and try again. The blood from that membrane through the hatching process is dried and goes into the chick and if ruptured can bleed the chick out.

Baby is still alive so hopefully not to late thanks for the help

I have 8 green Ameraucana eggs on day 10. Just candled and don't have a clue what I saw. Some had a black dot on the side and some had a large brown splotch on one side. What should I be seeing?

This is a frizzle Cochin bantam. Much more common than the standards. I would love to see a standard frizzle Cochin!

I just bought some day old Cochins and a couple of them have crusted poo on their buts! I washed it off but it happened again to one of them. What can I do?

When you clean the bottom, a little neosporin helps. Add chick grit to their feed...it is smaller than hen grit.

well foo not sure what to do i have been sick so have not checked on my broody girl very well, it has been three weeks saw her off the nest and her food bowl was empty so deiced to check found one dead chick look like maybe it had an unabsorbed yolk maybe because it had a large hole in its tummy(don't know if a mom hen would try and eat it if it did?).  so i checked the other eggs no pips in any of them i candled and the looked dark expt the air sack saw a few veins. but they felt cool to the touch and idk if she is going to go back to them or not she has not yet do you think the rest are duds?  Or should i just weight and see if she gose back to sitting on them give them a couple more days?

Warm the eggs in your incubator. If any others are still alive then getting the temp up will improve their chances. If candling doesn't show movement and there are no cracks in the shell, then water candling is helpful. Any cracks can allow water in that can drown the chick that has internally pipped. A chick that has not yet pipped, might be a day behind because it was to the outside circle of the eggs while the hen was brooding them. Chicks can hatch a day or two behind the others. You do what you can for the chicks...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
You could put her in a separate cage with nest material and some eggs. If she sits on them, you could give her back her eggs to finish brooding.
