***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Tucker made it through the surgery well.  All his bloodwork was great, so except for the current mouth problem he is healthy.  I know the surgery isn't a really big thing, not like he is being cut open, but he is 12-14 years old so that worried me.  The only thing we have to worry about now is the chance of mouth infection settling in his heart valve since he was only able to get the one dose of antibiotic before the surgery.

So glad to hear!

I had to do surgery on an Isbar pullet today.  She's got two infected impacted sinuses really really bad.  I've been treating her with antibiotics for 3 days but today noticed she was getting worse, I knew if I didn't cut it out she wouldn't make it.  She's still touch and go.  Keeping up with the antibiotics and we'll see if she comes through.

Hoping for speedy recoveries on both.

Hope she makes it. Tuck is on antibiotics too, but Gary has to give them, the antibiotic is in the pcn family and I am anaphylactically allergic.

Hoping for speedy recoveries on both.

Thanks! I am very encouraged today, she had a full crop at evening chores. One eye looks really good the other still a little crusty. I'm not sure I got everything because I had dug and squeezed so much it was making me nauseous and I had to stop- I had in total about the size of a large shooter marble if you combined the pus from both sinuses. :( But I think with the Tylan twice daily for 5 days she will be OK- I think I caught it in the nick of time.

@lonnyandrindaThat should work.

Watching a beautiful sunrise this morning...clouds forming for the coming rain. Second cup of coffee while I wait for the two dogs to wake and let me know they are ready to go out. Red and Gracie are like seniors...they like to sleep later.

Going to sit with the two younger grandsons tonight while their parents go to a neighborhood adult costume party. Then the neighborhood will have a huge block party Saturday for all the children. Daughter and hubby have some really wonderful neighbors...young families and several sets of grandparents...they all get together several times a year and they watch out for each other.

I'm leaving the chickens in their pens today with the rain, but also to keep Roger from having to round up straglers tonight since he will lock up the coops.

Dogs are ready...have a great Halloween weekend.

Rinda that is awesome news.

Tuck is getting a lot worse, he can't walk today. Spent all morning at the vet's office. X rays and blood work are all great, we are at a loss as to what is going on. We are putting him on high doses of prednisone and neuro pain management see if any changes by Monday.

Sorry to read about your dog Tuck. Best wishes for him.

Lost another pullet to a coyote 2 days ago despite my best efforts. Was thinking today might be the day I catch up to him because the dogs had been skirmishing with the pack most of the night. It being a cloudy day, seemed the yotes might be out moving.

A week ago, I cut brush just 50 feet from my front door so I could see the coyotes that had hidden there in the past. I let my chickens out early this morning and all seemed quiet until I heard Emmy Roo, the golden colored dog bail off the front porch. I jumped up and opened the door to see her heading toward the brush, her hair was standing erect as she emitted a low growl. I thought to myself, this is it, he is coming. In just a second I saw the ghostly figure of the coyote moving from left to right just outside the edge of the brush I had thinned. Many times I had seen him before, always for only a long second or two as he managed to disappear into the thick vegetation. A couple times I had come close to shooting him but feared for my dogs in his proximity. Today though was different. Brandy was in the house napping so I only had to watch for Emmy Roo. As he moved to my right, he cleared Emmy Roo and instantly it was over.

My hope is the remainder of the pack will not be so bold and will keep their distance from my dogs and yard. My dog Brandy has been injured twice over the years, both times they split her tail open during a skirmish and I had to stitch the wound. Even now, my hope is the pack will continue to den here. I would miss their howls at dusk and the bark of their pups in the summer and without them, the rodents would simply over run us.

Here's a pic of my dogs and the coyote. http://tinypic.com/r/mb4zzk/9

The new meds are already helping. He hasn't screamed in pain in over 3 hours, and he is able to sorta / kinda walk again. That is just after one dose. So

we are on the right track.

Finally got all 4 of the chickens rain coats made, and if your wondering, it takes one full size matress cover for 4 coats w/ scraps to spare. It has been a challenge w/ Tucker, might not have been able to get them done if not for the new meds.

So glad Tucker is doing better on the new meds. Red is doing okay with the Rimydahl and glucosamine. Our aging dog babies sure give us frights when they are in pain.

Hoping for some photos of your handiwork.

I've so enjoyed the little boys tonight. We have watched an early movie while playing games on the iPad, colored pictures, and read stories. They are both a sleep now after prayers and good night hugs and kisses. Love my grandsons!

One of my hens is pretty serious about raising a family. I wouldn't mind some more variety in my flock. Who should I contact in the Noble/ Norman area for hatching eggs? My kids might want to join 4H and show as well.

Good for you. We've had more than our share of coyotes this year. That's a great picture.

Sounds like Tucker is on the mend. Infections in the mouth are tricky: they move, sometimes into the bones. Do you have any raincoat pictures?
