***OKIES in the BYC III ***

[@=/u/66877/Kassaundra]@Kassaundra[/@] and [@=/u/21357/robyn]@robyn[/@]You should be proud...Ansel and Pansy have been bringing their 5 babies outside to free range. Ansel is a dedicated and protective father. They all roost together on top of the 10 nest box in the brooder room.

We finally got all the cabbage, lettuce, collards, broccoli and cauliflower planted and have 120 tomato plants and 100 peppers ready to plant hopefully before the coming rains. The garden finally looks presentable.
.

Awesome news about Ansel and Pansy.  :jumpy   120 tomato plants and 100 peppers?????  How many raised beds do you have??????

16 beds that are 16' X 4' X 12". And a bed that is 20' X 16'. Then there are six beds that have a diagonal line going from 5' X 8' to a 5' X 25' beds On eight of the 16 X 4 beds I have a 16 cattle panel suspended on t-posts on the midline of the beds that I use as a trellis for plants. Picture from last year...

Love it! Our big project next winter is to begin building our raised beds. But we will be using automatic sub irrigated garden beds via a wicking system and rain water collection. It will essentially means hands off gardening. We'll plant but will never have to water manually and since we'll be using sterile compost, we shouldn't have much weeding to do either in the first year. Not sure of the plan for keeping weed seeds out thereafter but we'll get it figured out. Possibly building a chicken tractor to fit on top of the garden beds...

Hi y'all. We recently moved back to Ft. Cobb from the McAlester area. We have bought an old hog farm on 5 acres. We are in the process of fixing up one of the barns that has fallen down. It has the pens still attached even though the walls have fallen. We have Cuckoo Marans, Light Sussex, Salmon Favorolles, Japanese Bantams, Americaunas, Deleware, Chinese Geese, and Pekin duck. We also raise hogs and Highland Cattle. A lot of our chickens are still chicks. It is nice to be here with like minded people.

Would like to hear more about the automatic sub irrigated garden irrigation if you don't mind. How do you plan to do it?
