I've got the roll up door open in the shop and a fan going in there so I can work once it gets cooler outside. Went out to check on everyone and they're all inside sitting in front of the fan. As long as they are cool I can pressure wash the floor later.

...what kind of chickens do you have?

Well the only ones I know for sure are the bantams, or as we call them bannies. We have about six hens and two roosters, not counting the two roosters and three banny hens we hatched about four months ago. And we have about 30 babies we've hatched that are a mix of the big rooster and our hens.

Lost two today due to heat. Hubby will spray down the tarps tomorrow during the heat of the day. So glad he is taking such good care of my birds while I'm gone. The heat index was at 110...so hard on the birds and him.

AWe I'm so sorry for yalls loss! We're about to get a hard plastic pool for ours to cool off in. I'm surprised we haven't lost any tbh. Although I am worried about some chicken hawks. The other day my aunt heard our rooster going beserk and went outside to see him just crowing away, all of our chiskens running to their pens or under the barn. We haven't seen any hawks but thats the only thing we could figure out.

Two years ago I set up a kiddy pool with water and some bricks inside...filled with water in the shade. Chickens would sit on the bricks to cool off. Could use two by fours as damp roosts on top of the bricks to accommodate more birds and keep the water level higher.

Been hauling buckets of water making a mud hole do they can dig and lay in it. I got the tractor pulled way up under the trees. They say we gonna get a little break from the heat done but it will be short lived. This stuff ain't no joke

doing the same here, pans with freezer packs in them and electrolytes

The misting hose is working wonders, but my chickens are filthy and stinky from the poopy mud it creates. Better dirty than sick from the heat, though. Their new coop and run should be ready for them to move in by the end of the weekend if all goes well. It's taken awhile because my hubs is building them from his own design. Will post a pic of the finished product.
