***OKIES in the BYC III ***

So those of you that have used nipple waterers are two nipples enough for six hens?
yes. But keep a water pan available until they learn how to use the nipple waterer. They can die of thirst quickly in this heat.
You can not make them drink from the nipples...you have to train them....point a laser at the nipple tip to draw their curiosity. Drip water on th nipple...once one starts, the rest can learn quickly.

Actually when I put it in this evening it took them about a minute after I put them back in the coop and they were drinking out of it

We're about to start using one because they won't stop pooping in their waterer. My hubs says some people train their chickens to use it with one of those laser pointers. I laughed when he told me that, because I could picture them chasing the dot. Lol! I remember when my friends and I would entertain ourselves and their cat with a laser pointer. Good times...

Our ice maker is struggling to keep up right now. I have two gallon milk jugs that I rotate in and out of the coop and today I put a fan out there blowing across one of them and they were loving that.

Got a little break this morning. Clouds, breeze and I see some west got rain. It was a good break. Probably won't last though

It was pretty nice here all day ... cloud cover most of the day and rain moved in before it got really hot. Cooled it off and was just such a relief. Chickens really enjoying it also.

Well, here's the run I've been nagging my hubs to build. Now he just has to attach it to the coop and do some predator proofing. It sure looks good, and the chickens are enjoying more room and nearly all day shade.
