You've been busy Nana. Did more than me but I'm almost finished with the new chicken tractor. I was making it to hook up to the lawn mower to make the moving easier. Way to heavy to move by hand. The coop is well over 100 pds without the 4x4 legs or hay and the chickens. Exspecially while I'm gone and it's just the DW. Mower still won't start. Dohhh Thinking about finishing it in the dark and strapping it to the truck while it's dry.

Sure hope everyone is ready for the predicted ice! Stay safe and if you have a well, be sure to draw up enough water for you and your critters.

Spent several hours today finishing up getting the housing ready for the chickens for these freezing icy days ahead.
The hen house
Hung a couple of red heat lamps over the water tubs in the hen house in the barn (removed the big 5 and 7 gallon self waterer a because they freeze).
Put in a few extra low to ground roosts using cinder blocks and 2x4s so birds could get the benefit from the heat lamps.
Put temporary covers over some of the doors and vents to keep out the wet cold air.
Hung half heads of cabbage in a wire net for entertainment.
Brought in new hay for all nest boxes and tucked some in quiet corners.
Filled all the feeders and water tubs and added fresh hay to the nest boxes in all the cages.

The big outside coop
Emptied and half filled the water tubs
Filled the two feeders and gave them a cabbage net too.
Added a thick layer of hay to the floor of the big coop and the small crate just in case...several still like to roost in it.

Ready as can be! Looks short term. I hope everyone stays safe

Yay I finished the tractor. Hooking it to the truck worked on the straight part. 6" from the bumper doesn't allow for much turn radius or any really. The hitch for the mower cracked when the frame hit the bumper. Pics after daylight.

I also told DW to leave early this morning. She didn't listen. But did notice the gates, roof to the chicken coop already had ice and the ramp to the chicken tractor was more of a slip and slide. Haven't got the little steps on it yet.

All wood taken out of the dumpster at work. Didn't want to spend another $30 to prime the rest yet.


Wheel in transport mode. Note 2x4 up.

2x4 down. 2" offset in bolts. Chaniging that to 3 1/2" 1 bolt through the 2x4 and the 4x4 upright 4" off the ground.

The white board on the ground is the long term ramp. Just threw that up to get them in and out.

Going to drill a hole through the 2x4 and drop a pin in my lawn mower. Also going to build a 2x4 jack like the rear wheel to put it on the mower.

I just put large eye bolts in and a cable I had till I broke it so now I use an extra chain I had laying around to pull with

It allows me to drag it almost sideways for tight turns.
Great setup you got there!

I like it. Really like the eye bolts. I will probably switch to that. I was afraid of doing the none turning front tires. And didn't want to get all fancy putting the turning tires on. Thought they may snap when turning. Also want it to rest flat in case of a tough coon, even with chicken wire going all the way under it. That's why I wanted to pick the front up a little higher for transport.
