Well, not to burst anyone's bubble or anything...
The story is true except for the last paragraph. That is urban legend. As a Marine myself, it does ring true but falls short of the mark.

Marine stabbed by shoplifting suspect

A Marine collecting Toys for Tots donations at Augusta's Best Buy was stabbed in the back Friday while helping to subdue a shoplifting suspect.
Fellow Marines identified the injured man as Cpl. Phillip Duggan , 24, who spent part of Black Friday recuperating at Eisenhower Army Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Tracey Attaway, 39, of Waynesboro, Ga., was jailed and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a knife in the commission of a crime.
Orvin Smith, a sales manager at Best Buy , said the incident occurred about 1:15 p.m. when a man was seen on surveillance videos placing a laptop under his jacket. Store staff asked Attaway to return the merchandise, and the situation began to escalate.
"He was really irate. A whole lot of energy. ... he finally let go of the laptop, ran out the front door, knocked one of my employees down and pulled out a knife so he could make sure he could get out the front door," Smith said.
Outside the door were four Marines and seven volunteers collecting donations for Toys for Tots.
"( Duggan ) clotheslined him, and after that he kind up got up and started swinging a knife around," Smith said.
Gunnery Sgt. Robert Richie said Attaway "came over the top and got ( Duggan ) in the back."
Attaway ran again but didn't get far before Richie, several other Marines and members of the store's loss-prevention team tackled him in the parking lot and held him until deputies arrived.
Gunnery Sgt. Sherry Barrera, who also serves as the Toys for Tots coordinator, opted to close operations for the day.
"When a Marine gets injured, we just shut it down, go to the hospital, make sure he's OK and make sure he gets proper treatment," she said.
Barrera said Duggan joined the unit about three months ago. Although she has had the opportunity to drill with Duggan only a few times, she said she had heard wonderful things about him.
"My boss, who has served with him before, did say he was an outstanding Marine," Barrera said.
According to Richmond County authorities, Attaway also tried to steal two digital cameras, an Xbox game, a PS3 game and a PS3 game controller with a combined value of $1,365.

Just wanted to let everyone know, one of my co-workers said she heard a blurb on NPR about our little POOPS gathering, on Friday. She said it was on their local events segment. How cool is that?? Now you know you are something if you are featured on NPR.
By the way, I just wanted to say THANKS, THANKS, THANKS to all those who worked so hard to make this POOPS such a success. Al and Renia you both are the bomb-d4mb diggity!!! It was such an awesome time and enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones. Dang feel like I could break out in an old Girl Scout's song. For those of you who were Girl Scouts you know what song I am talking about. For those of you who don't, just know I think you are all golden!!!
Well heading to bed, caught a bit of a cold this weekend and need to go sleep it off.

Oh I forgot, Stella (mini dogbert) enjoyed herself very much and wanted me to let everyone know they are welcomed to come over anytime and rub her belly. She promises she will give kisses in return.

I am so glad you like the cochins! They are some characters. The 4 mo. old's 2 sisters look a little lonely without them but their brother is too busy trying to boss around the grow out pen. I love watching their colors change and the way they "run". It is alot like penguins and not much faster. The bossy cockerel is fast though. I am trying to get him comfortable with being handled but he seems a little standoffish like his father was. He also has an errant tail feather sticking up while all the others fall like a cochin's should. The daddy lost his wayward feather after his first molt. My partridge cochin roo is the most friendly of all. He gets on his roost and expects to be picked up and held every day. The blacks I got from grace are very well mannered, are very calm when picked up and groomed. Dogs wiggle more.
I LOVE my chicken charms. Soon they will become my favorite and lucky bracelet. We should get together to talk about jewelry designs and other vintage "stuff" as well as birds.

Ahh, he/she was a great looking rotty, been around them my whole life and I love them to death. Got one here we bottle fed from 2 weeks old, she is about 3 now and a big ol baby. She aint the biggest, was the runt and not being on momma didnt help but she is a great dog. Only her and her brother lived out of that whole litter and he got HUGE.
