I'm looking forward to going to collect my new Gander this afternoon any new addition is always exciting to me LOL

Anyone know or have some advice about the new goose I have two questions cause I really just don't know,

1: Will it be okay to just introduce the new Gander right away into the pen with the two females?

2: Since they haven't laid eggs this year (or ever) Will they lay this late in the year now having a male in with them?

I have an empty pen next to the goose pen that I haven't added chickens to yet, I have the hens and roo in a temp pen till I get the coop in it finished I was thinking I might should put the gander in it to get the girls familiar with him through the fence at least for a few days but that will delay the flock having more room to live till then.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day

Good morning all....

Thanks for the recipe Elwood.. I have a hen I have separated because she won't open her eyes. Have given her penicillin for a couple of days. she is eatting and drinking and poops seem normal. but she won't eercise much in the 5 x 5 area she is in...sits on the little floor roost.
I'll try the feed and see if there is any improvement.

Weeded in the garden yesterday and need to do more today.

I'm going to Paden this evening to pick up three 5 week old BLRW chicks from a friend of Madra Oca (Josh in Prague). They will be roos with a possibility of a pullet. He says they are hard to sex at 5 weeks. Hubby and I will be checking cattle in Prague and in Paden so it's on the way. Hubby wants to eat at the BBQ in Prague too. Yippee..don't have to cook tonight.

morning guys- was on the run all day yesterday- got some beeeauuutiful chicklets and ducks from coral! will post pics in a bit- ducks are really amazing, put them in the pen i have in the chicken run, and you would think niblet had always known them! they were happily making the mud puddles deeper... let buddy out last night and normally we don't hear him, but he launched off the porch overlooking the duck pen a couple times in the night in a full 'roaring bark' so i think what ever has been picking of the ducks at night got a rude awakening last night- buddy must weigh close to 70 pounds- matt packing up your drawing today- never satisfied with it- the curse of being an artist- i need you send me your name and addy for it

ohhhh...have been going to the MFA- thanks carah! well, they had small bottles of ivermec, so dosed everyone last nite- and they have DE!! So they were out, but he put more on order.... off to feed critters, be back in a bit

woopsy i pulled a teach and had eggs hatching in the bator befor i got them moved to the hatcher speeking of teach where are ya ?? and how are those batam brown leghorns doing ???

MFA is a great place for any meds you might need. There feed is higher than what Munding has but they are now closed so you only have the tractor supply, MFA & Orschelins.

We have a nice cool day here. Sure wish the weather would pick a season but the weekend is suppose to be nice.

You want you chicks on a medicated chick starter, grow out on a non-medicated grower. Both of these are about 1-1.5% Calcium on average. too much calcium at a very young age can cause kidney damage and lead to a shorter life span.
Layer feed is typically 3.5% Calcium to support a strong egg shell and the additional calcium needs of production hens.

The layer itself will not kill a chick but is not as easily digested or as high in protien and vitamins as the starter or grower feeds.

Hope that helps.
