***OKIES in the BYC III ***

old*cowboy :

Hi all, thanks for all the concern. I have been having an ongoing problem with clots in my leg since Jan. From upper thigh to ancle the main vein was clotted completly shut back in Jan. I guess I have been up on it to much last few days cause yesterday my foot and leg looked like Fred Flintstone. Very swollen and very painfull. Went to ER wasnt much they could do but did give me a shot for the pain that has made me pretty much none functional today. I have to be in OKC at VA hospital early tomorrow so they can do some testing and blood stuff. Last time they lured me into a hospital for this they stuck me in for 8 days, hopefully tomorrow wont go that way.
Matt thanks for the call, and nice looking pictures, how are they bred.

The cockbird is rajah murgh, and the hen is a cross of two different lines of rampuris....Im also thinkin on putting that cockbird over one of our golden brazilian hens....

Man, this thing sure has slowed down. Hopefully it is just a beginning-of-summer thing.

Old*Cowboy, you take care of yourself. Hoping for the best for you.

Gotgame, I might not be a game person, but those are some pretty birds.

Looking forward to Cement auction on Saturday.

I've been having mixed luck on the chicken front. My pair of Crele OEGBs have been unable to hatch any of their own eggs, so I switched out her two with two from my EEs. She's been faithfully setting on them, rolling them back and forth and squawking at me every time I peek in on her. I thought I could be sneaky and do the same with one of my broody Buckeyes and switch out her eggs with the Polish and Russian Orloff eggs I got at POOPS, but the little rat pitched them out of the nest after two days.

I gave the surviving eggs to one of her sisters and she has done a champion job of setting on them.

Then last weekend I had two chicks hatch out of over two dozen shipped Buckeye eggs.

One was so deformed that it would never have been able to feed itself and the other eggs either had no development or didn't even come close to hatching. After having to cull that one, I was left with one lonely peeper in the baby brooder. I put a mirror in with it and it seems to accept that there is another chick keeping it company. It eats, drinks, preens, and cheeps at the mirror, but I am hoping that one of the broodies hatches something soon so it can have a real friend. Out of my older chicks that I got at POOPS, the one who suddenly stopped being able to walk has made a full recovery and is back to running around with its buddies. Still not sure what was going on there, but I'm glad it's doing fine now.

On an even better note, I put the learning I got at POOPS to good use and did my first solo processing on one of our cockerels. He has been making excellent sandwiches.
