Doc will began clearing CRC Post deployment tomorrow Morning about 4 am.. Possibly 2 days to clear, unless things go faster like the rest of the trip. He could definetly be home by thursday as long as he dont run into any problems...

I was trying to do some catching up on this thread. As always so much posting since the last time I checked in! We are 90% moved into our place in Cement. I am still stumbling over a few boxes, and there is still a truck load or 2 of odds & ends stuff still at our place in Lawton. The past few weeks have been very eventful as the girls & I have been her on the farm alone. Last week the dogs chased a bobcat into a tree. Killed 1 big snake outside my coop. Then DH came out with a load of stuff from town & he hit a deer with his truck, overall truck is not too bad, just damage to the bumper & leaking freon. Wonder what all is in store for us this week.....

My chicks from P.O.O.P.S are doing great. Don't remember who I bought the dark Rhode Island Red eggs from but I just want to say WOW!!!! The chicks hatched yesterday & they are so much darker than my other RIR chicks! If I find my camera in the next few days I will have to do a side by side pic for everyone to see.

Soon as I get the incubator cleaned out I will be setting a few dozen guinea eggs. The guineas I got from Coral @ Poops are doing GREAT!!! Bought a few other guineas at the auction in Fletcher to go with them. Corals guineas are calm & let us pet them & come when I call them with a bucket of corn or some left over strawberries. Those darn lavender & lavender pied ones I got from the auction are WILD!!! They come in when it is pitch dark, they don't care if I ask them nice, or bribe them with treats!

My daughter has loved going to the past 2 auctions, not the auction part, that is just boring if you ask her. She loves running around with other kids who have chickens of their own. Still can't get DH to like chickens the way my DD does, but as long as he will build the coops & take care of all the DIY stuff then I am ok with that!

Hope everyone is handling the heat ok. Been taking 2 liter bottles, freezing them & adding them to the chickens waters & laying bottles of ice in the coops. Also giving cold treats out during the hottest part of the day.

Great news about Doc !!!!!!!!

What is going on with this weather???? I know this
is still Oklahoma, but this is nuts !!! From two freezes
the first of May- to storms - to hooking up the
irrigation pumps and trying to tend the LATE garden.

So far, the shade cloth over the flight pen/greenhouses
is keeping the temperatures down for the birds. Haven't
gotten the gourd seeds planted for the vine cover -
or to raise Bill's gourds for woodburning next year.
But, the gourd vines grow like crazy and are an
excellent shade for pens.

Hey guys down in SE Oklahoma - Just watched the
specials about the wild hog problem down there.
That's wild....really WILD ! Dressed a 145 pound sow
last year and is out of this world....but wouldn't
even attempt another boar....YUCK ! If you get
the chance, try a smallish sow. Obviously, there's
plenty of them.

Thought I would post some updated pictures of the new coop we have been working on. We are still in progress but are working hard.

We converted a shed into a coop. Right now we only have a few roosts, but may add more later. As warm as it is, we are keeping the door open for now, but can close it up this winter. To the left of the shed is a small area that we are going to make into a broody area for mom's and babies.

In this photo, I am looking toward two of the area's. We built one small coop for 3-4 chickens in the one on the right, the one on the left still has the tractor in it. Right before the left side run is a section for grass, so they always have greens but don't scratch it down to nothing, that I found out about from another BYCer. And then far right of the picture where my son is, we are building another small coop area. All total when complete there will be 4 coop/runs. Sadly I still have more chicken breeds than I have room to do individual places for! lol
