***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Yo Lynn,

We're doing great around here. Staying busy and out of trouble (for us, that's doing great). Tell your wife I said hey and I miss y'all too. I looked at the pictures everyone posted and I sure wished I could have been there. Looked like you guys had a blast.

And I know what you mean about the smell of the wheat. I've never seen a cologne or perfume that smelled any better than freshly plowed earth.

Been a while since I posted, to many projects not enough time. Have Lavender Orps. and Buff Brahma eggs in the bator all due to hatch this week. 3 broody hens but don't think much will hatch from them except maybe the Dark Brahma. Hoping on that one. Will probably be at Blanchard tomorrow nite, but that is usual since I live closer to it than anybody else on here. Anyone interestd in Orpington/brahma crosses, need to get rid of them. they are from three months to 2 weeks old. No buff colored ones.

Hi All!
Haven't been on in a long time. BUSY BUSY BUSY! Hope everyone is well!
I have a question. I recently switched the brand of laying pellets that I am feeding my laying hens. I have noticed since switching the feed that I am getting larger eggs and a higher rate of production. Is this coincidence or can changing feed really do this?
Thanks,
Lori

i'd love to have her, from what i've read they a fairly docile? any idea on how hard it is to integrate a gosling to ducks and a gander??? we'd need to get a transport set up- so hang on to her till we can figure that out- how much do you want for her?

There are alot of opinions on this but i think the easiest answer is YES there is a difference between brands of feed and it does influence egg production. I don't see egg size changing much in my own experience. I also think feeds work for some people that might not work well for you depending on what the birds get to eat beside layer feeds. I like to mix my own feeds mostly because its fun and I can add stuff that you can't find in comercially available feeds. It keeps folks guessing when they see your feed.

What sort of area are you making for them? I'm starting to think about changing housing for my birds. They all share a coop and free range right now.

I have a "staple" feed of laying pellets, but also mix up my own feed mixture of rolled oats, wheat, BOSS, milo and wild bird seed. The chickens get a scoop of this every evening along with any veggies/fruits if I have them. During the colder months I mixed scratch and corn in also.
Would love to hear others mixtures they have come up with!
