Noticed that my izzy with her chicks, they are fully feathered, and she is getting a bit testy with them, is it time to reintegrate her? and how do i do that? Flo the silky is doing great with her foster chicks, they are funny little things- never even saw a nn till i got dragon, and these little guys are hilarious- half cochin nn, should be real pretty! And emily is still sitting on eggs, gave her the guinea and another egg, and she has a real growl...too cute from something that small!

Yep, that was her. My husband is a worse sap than me when it comes to feeling sorry for animals. He felt bad for all those hens in the trailer so he's the reason we got them. One of the best $40 I ever spent though, these girls are so very sweet. They don't even have to lay an egg for the rest of their lives and they'll have a home here :) Temperament is everything to me. Now if I can get my hands on one of those completely naked chickens......

Robin,
I double-love your Avitar - for the artistry and the subject.

Looks like another scorcher today

I am allowing the mama ducks and their ducklings - and the three mama guineas with their keets - just run around the yard instead of penning them up. I think this heat is more of a potential danger to the young than varmits, so am allowing the mamas to continuously lead their young into shade.

Might have to think about trading some keets with you next season, if you're interested. Your guineas were originally from my flock, which has dwindled to five. I do have five new keets, but so far, only royal purples and one pearl gray. I especially liked the lovely blues (next to my favorite slates) that you now have in your flock.

Betsy-- would love to trade you some keets next spring-- fingers crossed I get more coral blues-- they are my favorite too! So far I have had 2 hatch out of 50. The pearl & lavender seems to carry stronger than that blue. I was reading the other day that the pearls also have a longer laying season than other guineas.

Michael-- I was adding electrolytes & a tiny bit of orange jello powder to my oats. Those electrites stink! So the jello is to make them more appealing.

The leaves on my apple & blueberries are so few I can count them. Stupid grasshoppers are still eating away at the bark too! Hope this fall the trees will be able to recover. Craziest thing --- we have a HUGE pear tree, it is seriously half dead, but half is still putting out pears. Don't see the grasshoppers touching that ugly tree- only the new ones that I water.

Hope everyone stays as cool as possible today. I am trying to talk myself into taking the girls to the water park his week, but this heat is awful!
