***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'd have Spangled Hatch if they would quit eating the eggs. I have a beautiful spangled cock & the hen is spangled wheaten.

You are in luck I have had special training in egg rescue and in retraining egg eaters.
I'd would be glad to take those ornery egg eatin birds off of your hands.

Thank you for thinking of me. I think I am good for the next year or two on rabbit cages. With this heat, I am feeling very glad that I downsized about 1/2 of the rabbits. Empty cages require less time to feed and water.

Poco -fires are so scary out here in the boonies, so glad that one missed you. My husband was a volunteer fireman out here where we live in Logain Co for quite a few years until his job took over all of his free time. I was astounded at the lack of common sense some people show around fire. They'll just set their trash on fire around here and go off into town for the day. We just had police cars and fire trucks right at the end of the road the other day-a bunch of guys were burning the brush on their property and we're all under a burn ban! I hope they got fined.
janbcoo1-Thank you much for the info on DE. The people at Farmer's Grain are super nice. A boy about 12 yrs old loaded the chick starter for me-he was such a polite kid. I think he was one of theirs. Their prices are higher than other places but they've also go ready mixed feed for different kinds of birds there, I like that, I'm getting my Dove's food there from now on.
sshavney- I've been reading up on it quite a bit also. The website you posted from just sounds a little too "it'll cure anything" to me though lol No offense to you but I'm cynical when it comes to individuals who claim their product with cure anything from diaper rash to stupidity

I am very impressed with the stuff but they'd have gotten farther with me by not sounding like salespeople.
mjgigax's idea of "dust tubs" sounds like the way to go for me also. That's a good idea and a great way to go about it.

Okla-doodle-doo - The hardest loss I've had to endure to date has been a canine best friend. I'm sorry for your little dog.

Michael, I just love your stories. The world doesn't have enough people in it anymore who have real-life stories like yours that teach morals and values like that. Your grandmother sounds like she was a wise lady. I hope the guy that traded his dog to you got what he deserved in the end.

old*cowboy :

What do you guys worm your chickens with. I have some stuff I mix with water for large flocks, but hate wasting it on the caged birds. I say waste because it says to mix up what will be drank in a day. All my cage birds have 1/2 gal drinkers and on these hot days I keep them full, not going to just try to guess what they drink in a day. Anyone use a pill or paste wormer. I used zemectrin gold on pigeons before. Just a tiny bit on finger and insert in mouth. Any sugestions. Guy

I've read and read until my eyes crossed, there's so many opinions on bird worming and I'm so new to chickens that my opinion doesn't count much. What I've decided on is Ivomec injectable used as drops on their heads (2-4 drops depending on bird size) for things like mites & lice. Then Safeguard paste (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fenbendazole) that covers most worms. With the Safeguard I'm going to give adult chickens about 1/10th of a cc (just a glob on my finger). Then good old Wazine in the water for roundworms & Sulmet in the water for coccidia because they're so easy to dose when needed. I honestly don't know how you all with hundreds of chickens manage to worm them all. Mine are all babies &/or handleable plus I don't have many so it's easy.

mjgigax - I also give my chickens a plate of chilled fruit or cut up veggies. I know some people think it's silly to do things like that (surely no one here haha) but we all get as much of a kick out of watching them eat it as they do eating it. The 3 wk old Silkies still in the brooder (bottom 1/2 of a dog crate) get their long slice of cucumber or banana every night before bed. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time watching them eat it. Then I turn the light off in that room and they pass out like a bunch of toddlers.

I am looking for an adult "chicken safe" outdoor dog, that would protect the chickens and guineas from possums and skunks - but not bark all night long nor wander for 2 miles in every direction. I prefer an adult dog, since I have not had much success training puppies. I think I give in too easily.

When is the Anadarko auction and fleamarket? I've never heard of it
idunno.gif

The sale is on Georgia - starts @ sunup on Thursday's. I got their about 10 & the auction seemed to just be getting started. Think when it is cooler the auction might start later. It was just a bunch of random stuff. People that set up had anything you can imagine.... And some that surprised me. Weapons, meat pies, boot leg DVDs, not sure of the rules or who to contact to set up. Michael said $5 set up fee. Lady that is a weekly seller said people will sometimes let the guy know the week prior if they want an auction table. She said she sets up on wenesday nights & thursday by 530 people are out with flashlights peaking under the tarps on her table. Next time I will go earlier, but not at 530!

I just might have to drag Gerald over there some Thursday morning to see it. I've never been to Anadarko that I can recall, but was sure close last week ... went to Gracemont, which is just North of there.
