Back inside for a few minutes then heading back with another Gatorade and fresh sweat band. The temperature may only be 87, but it is getting hot fast.

I am rounding up unattended ducklings and keets. Most of the keets are trailing behind 2 guinea hens, but there are a few that appear to be smaller that are by themselves, chirping very loudly and getting on their toes to look around. I think those must have hatched out of the same nest as the turkey poults I found floating in the peacock's waterers.

One turkey hen has been hatching runner ducks and I am gathering those as I can catch them, since she isn't leaving the nest to teach them anything. I am going to take the unhatched eggs out of the nest and see if she will rejoin her sister turkey hens, since this was her second or third round of hatching eggs.

There is also a group of muscovey ducklings that must have escaped through the chain link fence around the chocolate muskovey duck pen, since they are the same size as one that is going back and forth, in and out of the chain link fence. It may take two people to catch those, since they go in and out of the chain link so quickly.

P&B...I hope you have a big hat on to keep that hot sun off you....I can just see you out there catching birds.
I use a 5 foot length of 1/2 inch pvc pipe as my shoo stick and can herd a few at a time into the pen gate. You may have to wore the hole closed first if you are out there by yourself.

Carl Jarvis YOU are my HERO in the war against flies! Mixed up 1/2 cup of Pinesol in two gallons of water and used the garden sprayer to spray down the barn entrance to the hen house, the hen house, the layer run and the teen pen....NO more flies!! And the ammonia smell is much reduced. Will follow up tomorrow with the Oxine spray. Wanted to let the Pinesol dry out good first.

Wayne...any luck catching your parakeet hens?

Guy..looking forward to the Shamo pictures.

Gardeners Oklahoma Gardening show on channel 13 has started a series on square foot gardens.

Howdy everyone just wanted to drop in and say hello. Its a bit dry here as well we have had no measurable rain since October, we haven't mowed the lawn in almost a year and its illegal to water now so I guess we won't be mowing anytime soon. Sold some calves Thursday and for now cattle prices seem to be fare, chicken prices are at an all time low though. Hay is a valuable comodity in these parts there was a guy headed for Arkansas yesterday with a pickup and a trailer its bad when you will drive that far for 12 round bales. We are good though birds and rabbits are hanging in there and the horses and mule stay in the shade. Hope everyone is doing good if anyone hears from Teach tell him to empty his voicemail and call his brother.

Nana - Love the photos. How can your plants be so green? Everything around here is turning brown.

Chuck - Great to see you today. Wish it hadn't been so hot. I hope the heat lets up next Saturday. Several people asked me to bring some big, older chickens. If you've got some, you might find buyers next Saturday. All I've got is teens and almost-layers. Did you sell any of the puppies? If they had been kittens, I'd have been interested. I think I've got a lead on a litter that's free to a good home, so maybe I'll be able to pick them up this week.

I poked at a smoking tree trunk left by our recent fire. There are still smoldering embers in the woods west of our pasture. Firemen out there... How long will it be before the embers die? Do we need to be concerned? Will a strong wind turn the smoking tree trunks into flaming tree trunks? Most of the grassy bits are blackened smudges, but there are still plenty of trees and limbs dry enough to burn.

Hi all, back at the library today!!! I got up at 2:45am and went to work so I could get out early! Called Old Cowboy after work and was going to meet him at Guy Rose Auction but he had just left, so I went to eat, went to Wallyworld to find a charger for my ancient cell phone for my truck since mine melted in this heat!!!! No such charger left in this world so will have to make sure it is charged good before I leave home from now on. Doc did you and Teach get my text about the Draft horse/mule sale at Pawnee OK in August??? Hey Wayne nice to see you on again, have not heard from you in a while, the Tennessee Law Greys I got from you are laying now. Have had some losses due to this heat, no matter what I try to keep them cooled off. Had a game hen die yesterday after setting out three settings of eggs, last set she hatched me 8 out of12 Red Quill Games then died the next morning. She was a persistant setter and would not quit till she hatched some then she got off, a bit too late in this heat though I guess. Would love to hear from any of you, will check in when I can till we get our puter going again, Monty, Marybeth and Guy all have my number if anyone needs me. Have a blessed day all!!!! Lynn

We go occassionally, mostly when we have something to sell. I have seen some nice birds go through and some not so nice. You have to watch what you are bidding on. Usually starts the outside stuff around 6 or so and the inside birds/eggs etc. as soon as the outside is finished. Sometimes last until 1am or so. John is a nice guy and tries to be as helpful as he can and still get bids for the seller.
