***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Quote:
It's taken me several years to get this set -up completed (since the drought in 2006) and it has paid off this year.
We laid those 50 foot black soaker hoses down in each bed and covered the soaker hoses with either compost or hay. The compost /hay cover keeps the beds cooler and slows down the evaporation. Each soaker hose has a snap on connector.
From the faucet in the garden, we connected a four spout brass faucet and attached four garden hoses to that. Each garden hose has a shutoff hose end and a snap-on connector to match the ones on the soaker hoses. We can set up four beds at a time to irrigate....usually between 30 minutes to an hour. Then it only takes about 10 minutes to move the hoses to the next four beds and start irrigating those.
We have 16 beds that are 4 x 16 and one that is 20 x 20\\. and 7 beds that are 5 feet wide and vary in length from 8 - 20 feet .
All the garden beds and all the landscape beds have soaker hoses with snap-on connectors.
The fruit trees get watered by leaving a drip on a hose and laying it at the base of a tree overnight.

Had a good visit with Cameron and his friend today.
When they left my house it looked like the Beverly Hillbilles. They had pens strapped everywhere.

(I hope you all get some good use out of them.)

Your dog, Gracie, has the somber demeanor of a Pyrenees, she looks Pyr/Border Collie but it's hard for me to tell. I had 6 Pyrenees at one time all related from the same kennel in Colorado (Ripples was the kennel name). I miss them so bad. The lady who bred them died several years ago and it just wouldn't be the same for me to get a Pyr from different lines. Great dogs, nothing sweeter than a 9 wk old Pyr puppy. Sigh.
Anway-wanted to say how much I enjoyed your pictures. The temp just said it was 109 degrees where I am in Guthrie. Why does it look so nice and cool in your pictures?? lol

Gracie is an Australian Shepherd. She was a gift from my neice when our big dog was killed on the highway. I had just retired and really missed Max...swore I'd never get another big dog next to the highway. Tammy's cousin was a breeder and wanted to reduce her breed stock so offerd Gracie to me..she was two years old and immediately became my protector/buddy.

Thank you for the compliments.
Don't let the green color in the garden fool you...it's HOT out there. We have very few trees around the house and none around the garden for shade. What trees we have planted over the 12 years we have been here are slow growing in the red clay. Our highest temp was 114 and it is 109.7 right now. I have beds of daylillies that are cooking in the ground even with a wood chip mulch. I'm trying to give them enough water to keep the tubers alive. We have lost many hostas, roses and landscape bushes to the dry hot winds. I was ready to take a plunge into the newly cleaned and filled cattle tank yesterday while I was outside. In the pastures, the grass is yellowed and crunchy.

If your going for barred you can put your barred cockrells over Black hens and get all barred from that mating... I notice there is some leg color difference in the last two pullets is that a problem or acceptable for the breed?

Shamos are the big variety, then you have your bantam shamos, and Ko Shamos are even smaller than the bantams. They genetically are supposed to be split winged.

From the standard. Not genetically supposed to be split wing, but usually found to have.
Wings: Short and strong with prominent shoulders. Wing tips should stop at the base of the saddle hackle and should not be carried over the back. Birds of the best type are usually found to have split wing. In the KoShamo this should never be judged a fault.
