***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Helped Vashi shift three pens of chicks today to allow for growth/maturity. This is the first time he's done it, and hated for him to have to do it all himself. Went well. Walking on the very uneven terrain went well also, though slowly and very carefully! Not outside much as it is soooooo hot and I still have quite a bit of pain and stiffness. To be expected though, only 2 1/2 weeks out.

Robin, those birds are gorgeous! They're Cochin bantams and Mille Fleur is the color? Thank God I found out about chicken math from you all. Otherwise I'd never get to plan on having so many different kinds of chickens ! The way I'm going to start doing it now is to build the pen ahead of time for a specific breed I want, I know exactly how I want to do it. Then keep 2 or 3 hens & a rooster of that breed. I'm planning a bachelor pad for the roosters. I can't thank you all enough for this chicken math-what a novel concept!

You can't build the pen first or you will fill it with something else then need to build another one, it is so much better to just get what you want when you see it and have your DH or who ever deal with teh problem quickly the next day..

you ought to listen! she has it right- i started with 5 and an 8 x 4 coop...well, before long that had to be expanded, then hubb (coop101) made another pen, well, that now has ducks, the old coop is our sicky chick coop, cuz we bout a 10 x 10 shed, then banties entered the picture, so the backyard has the banties..... silkies, cochins and a few nn, eeeekkkk...chicken math strikes again!

On the subject of salad for your indoor birds here's my recipe dandilion greens, wild violets, tender grass cut up real fine with a pr of scissors your pairs will love it ,this time of the year its hard to find this kind of fare. The parakeets and cockateils greeted me with lots of racket when I would come in from outside they knew when I had goodies for them.Good luck with your birds they are lots of fun.

Praire-hen ,yeah thats the way I do it to. I try to find what ever the best looking"greens" are around, its usually a good mixture. They sure love it. My parakeets won't eat any salad tho. I have tried several different fruites also but they just won't touch them. They are seed hogs thro!lol.

Jarvis I like what you said about the pens!lol Thats the scheme I go by but I'm the one who is out the next day trying to figure out what to build for my aquistions!lol.I have a few pen projects for fall to do. I am tearing down my big pigeon loft and will use that material to make several smaller pens that I can posssibly move with me. I figure if I make everything in panels and use scrtews I can take apart and rebuild easy enough. Sounds good on paper,we will see how it goes!lol

Hey Joe is everything about cooked in our neighborhood? At least that naked chicken is staying warm!lol

Glad you're a good shot...why not tape the flashlight to the underside of the barrel so you can still aim?

Good question! The answer is that I just never thought about it. Will see what the BF thinks about it, since its his gun.

City - Oh my.

I picked up our goats today. They are crying like kids and making my heart hurt. I think they are missing their other momma. Maybe by tomorrow they'll be talking rather than crying.
