but you still only have cochins, don't you? (the NNs don't count since they don't have a full body of feathers - chicken math

Yes, only Cochins + the one NN that must go to the auction Saturday ( it is a roo).
I have only 8 hens that are laying and 3 of those are sitting on nests and not laying now. They only count if they are laying right? .... so that is 5 but 4 of those are bantams so I have only 1 chicken.

I like this math!

bantams count as 1/4 a chicken even when they are laying, Broody's don't count until they start to lay again, so it sounds like you really are down to 1 chicken

Oh no! Why's Jack in the hospital? I sure hope he's feeling better soon and gets to go to the auctions.

He has an infection but is already feeling better with the antibiotics. It is a common problem for parapalegics (sp?) He has been in a wheel chair for 20 years, was still working at Tinker after his accident till he had to stop because of Carpel Tunnel. - Makes my aches and pains seem trivial.

If 4 bantams equal 1 then I have 2 total; 4 bantams and Peaches, the Buff LF I got from you. She is much adored around here, very tame and is flock boss of the grow out pen; breaks up squabbles and put rude little roos in their place.

get your syphon pump and hoses... Fill the pond quickly

If we would have realized earlier how long the hydrant would be open, it would have been cost effective to rent a pump and hoses. As it was, the grandsons and their cousins will sleep well tonight, after playing in it for more than 2 hours.

Motherinlaw just got out of bed and told her daughter that she needed to turn off the lights and tv and go to bed because she was trying to sleep!lol. At 3 am we will be telling her the same thing! Its hard to retrain someone from a day sleeper to a night sleeper, she may end retraining us before its over!lol Gotta laugh or you cry!

Peafowl owners~~~~~~. What type of shelter do your birds use in the winter? I know, I am not in danger of the birds getting cold anytime soon. But DH was drawing out some plans to build the peafowl a shelter. How much shelter do you provide? A 3 sided structure or a shed type structure? Just want to make sure they are protected as much as needed from the wind & cold air.
