Channel 9 just aired the video of the doctor who did Roger's surgery demonstrating the equipment used for his surgery. And they "teased" about the the clip on Roger..."In the next hour we will view an interview with an Oklahoma man who suffered from sleep apnea and benefited from this surgery" so we are now waiting to see it between 6 - 7am.

Great bottle gourds Wayne. You might have to put a sling under some of those in order to get the car in....might have a nice pattern on the bottoms. If you want to use any for crafts, you could sling a board under the gourd so it will firm up a nice bottom on which to set/sit up straight.

Watered my trees earlier. Out of 15 new trees 1 lone apple tree is trying to bud new leaves. Gives me hope that the others will rebound after the heat & grasshoppers. Now I am sitting in the yard watching the dogs bark at something by the creak, chickens are catching grasshoppers & eating up the tiny pieces of green grass that are trying to grow, and the guineas are screaming @ something in the woods. Will wait until it gets hot then go wash dishes & do some laundry. Dh is suppose to be home tonight, so guess I need to plan some dinner too.

Robin - I love the buddy picture. My BR girls hang out together. They are pals with the Marans but don't seem to like sharing roost space with the EEs. I'm sure when winter hits all cliques will be forgotten. Staying warm will be the most important thing then.

We now have a rock house again. It's wonderful to see the browns, reds, and golds instead of the flat, icky gray the previous owners painted over everything. In looking for homes over the past thirty years we've seen so many things painted that should have been let be. The natural rock is the best/worst example of what not to paint. My dad used to say, "Be wary of a fresh coat of paint when buying a home. It can hide a million flaws or cost a bundle to undue if it's not what you really want." In our case the sandblasting is as expensive as the paint, repairs, and labor for the rest of the job. But you know, it's worth it to see this lovely old farm house restored.

Bill - I hope the ducks are getting along with your other birds. They were a friendly bunch here (noisy at times), but I know they will be happier with a pond to swim in rather than a couple of pools. If I can figure out how to keep the hawks away from the ducks (yes, they go after the ducks here too), then maybe more of ours can spend time on the pond.

Got raccoon number 7 last night. Didn't lose any poultry. Don't know if I mentioned that something got one of the baby woodpeckers several nights ago. I'd let them out into one of the large, high covered chicken pens so they could learn to fly better. I let the other go that day. They were definitely big enough, but the rehabber was concerned that they wouldn't be able to find food since insects are so scarce, so we'd waited.

Vashi said he bet I'd be "Mama Woodpecker" for quite some time, but I thought I wouldn't see it again. He was right, so far. It greets us both every time we come out the door, but swoops over me back and forth, following me all around the yard, until I fix food to feed it with the eye dropper. Needn't have worried about its flying ability; it is quite good at it, even though it had little chance for flight until I released them into the chicken pen.We leave special food out for it as well. There's at least one adult red bellied woodpecker that has taken an interest, but I can't tell yet if the babe shares that interest. Yesterday when I came home, it greeted the car as I came through the gate, then followed me all around the yard. I don't know if it recognizes the car or has such keen eyesight it can recognize me through the windshield. It greets Vashi also, but doesn't swoop over him. It even landed on my head once.
