Yes I agree a nigerian should be more refined. If a person wanted a stocky small goat looks like the kinder would be the way to go. The pigeons are doing great. Picked 16 from teach straight run (not so good of idea with pigeons some times) so far I have 6 pairs out of them on eggs. Not to shabby for just reaching in a box and grabbing birds.

There weren't any chicks yet that I saw but I didn't go into the main barn, just in the side barn where the bird cages are lined up.
Jack was going to bring some Americauna (and Marans) to the auction but at noon a lady came and bought them all. There were some beautiful Splashes and Blues in the bunch. He normally always has some Americaunas but he decided to shut down his incubators for right now. He is bringing a really beautiful (and huge) Americauna rooster; light colored - splash with a bit of buff. If I had Americaunas, I would get him

New Okie here. I'm in the Tuttle/Bridge Creek area.
My mom and I (we live next door to each other) are raising our first flock of hens and ducks together. The hens we got for the eggs. The ducks we got just for fun, although our one female is now laying eggs too and we are thrilled with such nice big duck eggs. We are learning a lot and having a lot of fun with them. We have 23 hens and 4 ducks (1 female, 3 males). Our duck/drake ratio is kinda bad, I know. We have a home lined up for a few of our drakes if they get too aggressive in wanting to mate our female too much, but for now they all get along very well. The ducks and chickens have been raised together since birth and we haven't had any issues yet. Ducks go in the coop at night just like the chickens when we lock them in, and they have a nice big fenced yard where they play, rest, swim, and eat during the day. Everyone was raised on flock raiser and have been on Layena for a few weeks now. We have cochins and black sex link hens, and pekin ducks. We got our first eggs over a week ago and right now are getting about 3 per day and 1 duck egg. I hope the pace picks up and the rest will start laying soon. I'm hoping the cool front will help.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello. I've learned a lot lurking here for the past few months and decided to join so I could ask a question about my pekin female. (see ducks forum for that).

Decided not to go to Newcastle. My sister has to work late shift on the weekends so we keep the kids. Dh usually brings the kids out for the weekend after work on Fridays. He was off Friday so my sister brought them out late this afternoon. There was no way I would make it to the sale in time. Hope everyone was able to get some nice birds tonight.

Welcome BCChick! We have been considering Pekin ducks for meat. Just haven't convinced myself I am ready to deal with the mess of ducks yet! Do you plan on hatching some ducks? The lady's eggs have to be fertile with all those boys chasing her!

Well, personally I would like to hatch some so we could get some more females, but since this is a joint project with my mom and she doesn't want more ducks, we probably won't. I agree her eggs are likely fertile. They mate in the pool every morning. lol.
