***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Out of curiousity, did anyone see what the Bourbon turkeys went for at Newscastle? We went out there, but since I didn't know what time, we went way early in the day and could NOT hang around til 6 pm when the auction actually started.

Home from a day of appointments. Love pulling up and all my guineas are lined up ready to see me. Sad part is when I walk over to them they run off! But they are cute to watch

Learning not to park next to the chickens. They come to the grill of the car & try to peck off all the squashed bugs! Silly birds are going to chip the paint if I don't watch out....

Dinner is ready in the crockpot, so now I just need to tend to all the birds.

Michael, those green egg layers calmed down BUNCHES. I left them penned for the past 3 wks. Let them out yesterday. They didn't go further than 10 ft from the pen. Sometimes they get skiddish when I walk by, but they are doing very well.

I can tell you anythig you want to know... as well as supply the right solution, point you to funding resources, rebates, help you sell the carbon offset credits.
What utility company are you on for Electric and gas if yu have it?

We are on city of perry electric... not positive where they get their power from, but I'd guess OGE. I could find out. Our gas is ONG, but our gas bill is not much of an issue with me yet.
A few years ago, I purchased new double paned windows and put a new roof on, also got a new AC unit. It went from sitting near a window and feeling the wind blow through, to nice and snug. I looked forward to with much anticipation for our next utility bill, only to be terriby disappointed. I've checked with the city to see if there was some kind of energy audit they could do, and they handed me a piece of paper that had energy tips on in that most 10 year olds would be aware of. "Turn off the lights when you leave the room"..... seriously?? Anyway, my dream would be to make them buy electricity from me.

Is there anything that's cost effective that can make that happen??

Still trying to upload the pic for you... maybe I'll get it tonight. lol

Went to Atwoods sunday to look for some mealworms for treats for my chickens. They said they didn't have any, but I did find something they are enjoying, it's called a scratch block, if I remember correctly. It's the size of a cattle block, but looks like scratch and molasses pressed into a block. They've enjoyed pecking on it. Thought it would be better for them to peck on that than on each other since they've had to be penned most of the time since we had a neighbors dog incident.

I used to let them have free roam of our whole back yard except at night, but now they have to wait until I'm home to protect them. No use of firearms in the city limits you say?? Better not let me catch your dog after my chickens then!
Anyone else tried the Scratch block?

We got a bag of mealworms at Atwoods in Shawnee about a month ago. That kind of stuff doesn't seem to be well stocked there.
Then we found a larger tub of them at Lowe's for a cheaper price.
The Petsmart in MWC sometimes has live ones for sale but said this year's heat really hurt their suppliers.

OK, I just checked and Perry is part of the OMPA, there is no interconnect allowed by OMPA without violating terms of thier power purchase contract with the city. I fought this battle once already.
Did you apply for the IRS 30% credits for th ethings you have done? If not you may still have time to amend the taxes for those years. I am sure we will see each other again, if you will remind me I have a 300+ page book I could loan you that steps through a great deal of residential energy conservation. I also have test equipment that can test for air infiltration, to help find your air leaks so they can be fixed.

ONG just came out with thier rebate program and is pretty good, up to $1950 for heater upgrades or conversion from electric to gas, 250-850 for hot water heaters.

Other than that insulation, and air infiltration and the biggest bang for the buck.
