***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hello to all my BYC Friends, I have had an interesting day to say the least. Today my chicken partner and I cleaned house for the up coming winter and we had some really good deals. Went to COllinsville Livestock Auction Parking lot we've sold there before have to drive nearly 40 miles to get there we pull in and are prepared to pay the 10.00 venders few the owner refused our money and asked us to leave So very begrudging we did..... drove on down to admiral Flea Market in Tulsa paid our 10.00 vender fee sold out within a hour better market than C'ville so the whole incident turned out well but still a bit put out with the sale barn owner at C'ville he has never turned me away when I was a buyer or seller in his salebarn which I assure I never will be again. His wife bought Guineas from us last fall borrowed a cage and has never bothered to return it. Not my kind of people and I'll go way out of my way to never do business with them again nor will I recommend them to anyone. I sold everything but my trio of slate colored guineas. And probably could have sold them just wasn't prepared to take less than 10.00 a piece for them. So came home to whine to my friends. SORRY

Evening folks! Winding down after a busy day. Left out at 6:30 this morning to the Elkton,Ky sale. Got back home about two. Fed and watered the critters and mowed the yard and spent some time with wife and MIL. Now wife is watching "the" game and MIL is in bed. Had agreat time at the sale. My new sale buddy went with me and we met up with another Tn BYC couple there and had a good time looking birds over and chatting. They ended up with eleven new birds,I got three and my bud came home empty handed. I got a nice young trio of golden penciled hamburgs. Sold 8 parakeets for $140 so was satisfied with that. Lots of variety at the sale, calves, hogs, sheep, goats, and all kinds of poultry. It was pretty much still a buyers market but better than the last one. They were brinning in punkins again for a wed auction. I have never seen so many and so much variety . It was awesome! Really neat to see them hauled in by mules and wagons too! I knew there was a big variety of punkins but never saw so many before. One wagon load were as white as snow on sunny day! I mean bright white! Others were blood red and others blue and others pastel stripes of orange, pink, white! Really made you hungry for pumpkin pie just looking at them!lol

No one else talking so I'll keep on that way we can get back to the top of the page!lol

We are headed out in the morning to Little Rock,Ark. Going to meet the Sil there and exchange MIL custody! I thought those days of parking lot child exchanges was over for us!lol. Anyone who has been in a split knows what I'm talking about!

Saw a thing at the sale today that showed the difference in how people feel secure. Looked up the road from the sale and here comes a 10' foot long iron wheeled wagon pulled by two mammonth mules. It was loaded down with crates of chickens,There were four occupants of the wagon. Three boys and a girl. The oldest was at the very most six (yes 6) years old and the youngest around two! They six year old was driving the team. And did quite well. When he pulled up one of the guys working the loading area backed them up and unloade them for them. They couldn't even pick the crates up! Then the boy pulled the taem around to the back and parked the wagon. I never did see an adult with them the whole sale. I thought, man I know of no one who would be that secure as to send those little ones off to market with a huge mule team to control. Or even to let them out of site for that matter. No one at the sale seemed to think any thing about it! Just a totally different culture. I hope their God watches over them closely.

I can relate! lol Used to have to do the child exchanges when I lived in Tulsa and the kids dad lived in OKC. We would meet at the outlet mall parking lot in Stroud. That mall was later blown away by a tornado.

The children you mentioned driving the mule wagon - were they Amish? Even still, they seem a bit young to be off by themselves. That's sounds a bit ... well, scary!

Okla, you were busier than anyone! I can't believe the parents sent their little kids alone to a sale with a mule wagon! Jeez, I made my kids hold my hand when we crossed the street til they got taller than me lol
So your MIL is with your SIL now? For good or for a visit? That's got to be hard for all involved.
We worked on the yard finishing up the lone pet Barbado sheep's new fence. He's living with 6 sex link hens now since the neighbor dogs killed his 4 sheep buddies a few wks ago. He loves his chickens.
