***OKIES in the BYC III ***

At the Webber's Falls station w/ Walter and just saved a life literally. A little hummer got all tangled in a spider web. Walter untangled her and I made a sugar water solution in a spoon and we fed the little girl until she got enough energy back to fly off. It was awesome she just sat in Walter's hand eating ...... and me w/o a camera!

(Walter is my partner on Sat)

Evening All, we just made it back from Blanchard, lots of cages, bunnies and birds for sale. Got to visit with a bunch of BYCers and met even more people, some who weren't BYCers...but they certainly got to hear a lot about it...

Is it just me...or is the speaker system way too loud at Blanchard? I know you got to hear the auctioneer...but as loud as it was, he just sounded garbled tonight.

MichaelDaughtery asked me to pass along that he is going to be set up at Mary's Swap Meet again tomorrow (Sunday)...in case anyone missed him today that was looking for birds.

And I bought half of them, I think.

We also bought some birds. Some EE pullets, near ready to lay, for $1.25 each, and a cage of 6 month old Cuckoo Maran roos for two dollars each. We want to try an experiment. We are going to fatten them up just a little more, then butcher them, see how they taste. I believe in heritage breeds for the table, and it costs well over $10 to raise them to eating age. This way, someone else did all the work raising them, and we get to eat them for a fraction of the cost of raising them ourselves. Of course, we don't know exactly what sort of lives they lived, but it has got to be better than factory farms, we reckon.

Speaking of which, why do people do that? I understand a lot of birds just don't have enough meat on them, like banties and games and exatics. But why would somebody raise up a nice big bird perfect for the table, then turn around and sell them for less than they would have cost them as chicks? Better to put them on the table, I should think.

Great deals tonight, but I felt bad for the sellers and the auction folks. It was nickel and dime night for sure. I felt almost guilty for all my great deals.

Almost.

Mike D made a killing. He bought over a thousand dollars worth of birds for about two hundred bucks. Way to go big Mike!

BTW, Mike, PM me when you get a chance. I think I may have a solution to the dilemma you were talking about earlier in the evening.

A lady I buy my marans from mentioned that the collinsville livestock auction wasn't letting the poultry peeps there any longer! That is no bueno! She lives in claremore so that was a pretty short drive for her. I've been to the admiral flea market, kind of scary. Last time I went there, their was a guy was selling some sorry looking chicks. Haven't been back since. Has it gotten better?

Does the lady in claremore still have marans?

She does not. I did just get 24 hatching eggs from her on Monday. With any luck I will have some in about 14-15 days

Good Morning~ Is everyone sleeping in????

I have been missing for a day or two but sounds like the Blanchard auction was a buyer market. EVeryone is unloading anything they dont want to feed this winter.

We got the holes for my building done yesterday, going to stand them up today & frame around the bottom to get it square today. I will take pictures when there is something to see.
