***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We decided to wait until they come down in price a bit, then get involved in them. It'll be a fun project to "get around to".

However, for right now, it'll be the BSL, two LF cochins, and that should be it.

I went to the feed store today and bought FEED! Oh, and Wazine, Tylan50, poultry dust, syringes, vitamin powder, and Ivermectin paste.

Better safe than sorry, right?

I will talk to afew folks and see what might show up later this year from out of state that could available for a little girl. You never know with the Wyandotte folks they will sometimes give away incredible birds for the right reason.

Those old redwood's are the best ones out there... good looking when cleaned up, stained, and cleared look like good furniture. We had 3 sold 2 of them last fall and the last one just about 1 1/2 months ago. We have 2 much larger inc. that we have been running for about a year.
You should be able to find them this fall at assorted auctions and they often sell quite reasonable. When you are ready to make turners for them let me know I have made some that work great.

Thanks for the help. The two I have were bought about 10-12 years ago for me by my parents when I raised game chickens. They've been stored in a barn for 6 years now thought my dad sold them but found them hear while back and decided to restore them. I restored one as a high-school project and realty enjoyed it. I plan on rescueing and restoring as many as possible.

Your LF Cochins certainly are lol! My daughter (she's 31) picked up one of them to put her to bed in the coop and said she about threw her back out lol They're hefty. Their crops look like softballs, my husband said they eat so much it looks like they're running sideways

The Bantam Wyandottes sound wonderful......if I can't find a Silver Laced LF Cochin.

We have quite the chatty group today! Lots of posts to read through.

Finally got that small coop finished that I started over three weeks ago, only I didn't finish it myself. Too much knee pain. Had to pay a handyman to finish it. It looks ok, just not how I would have liked. It will serve the purpose though. Now on to getting one built for the bantams. Carl - PM'd you about your A-frame plans.

Kassandra - Hope you're alright. Did you see a Dr about your tachycardia? Let us know how you're doing.

Nanakat - How's your MIL doing?

Isn't that the Chupps auction? It's once a month, if I'm not mistaken, first Sat. maybe?

LOL! It's funny you say that. My little Serama rooster runs sideways like that and I laugh every time he does it. I named him Sidewinder.

The big Cochins do eat a lot, true. But I'm sooo smitten with them. Their chunky fuzzy butts waddling fast as they can chasing things, adorable. If I were into chickens for anything other than pets I probably wouldn't have so many Cochins. I've got lots of time to decide what to get next. It's hard finding a breed I like that A. Can't fly B. Are super docile and C. I think are gorgeous. I quite possibly will end up just finding different colored LF Cochins. That'd be my preference.

I won't try to steer you away from Cochins. i love them in all sizes and so far I haven't been tempted by any other breeds except Favarolles, which are Cochins with beards and extra toes, and Seramas, which are just too adorable to ignore.

will likely return to Bantam Wyandotte. They eat much less, lay very well, and teh egg size is more than 2/3 the size of teh LF wyandotte so for a laying flock and gentle show birds both the Bantam Wyandotte makes sense to me.

well now you have me thinking, so the egg size is close to a regular size and for less feed??? i am looking at the blrw coloring and getting swayed to more bantams in the future....

Must be an Artist's eye but I too think blrw is such an amazing color. I don'treally like any combs but straight though or I would probably have EEs too.
