Good Morning Okies!!

Woke up to find a black Easter Egger chick had hatched. I saw he had pipped last night, so I figured he'd be hatched out by mornin'.

I'm sitting here eating some warm oat meal. I'm not overly found of oat meal, but thats what was fixed so I guess I'll eat it.

Sold 3 SLW, 5 BR x Domique, 1 White Rock, 1 Partridge Rock, 1 Grey American Game, and 1 white mixed hen on Wednesday. Along with 5 Guinea keets, and of course I threw 3 roosters in for free.

Still need to get rid of a couple of chicks, and a couple more keets before winter sets in.

getting ready to get some painting done- they sure are beauties! anyone around muskogee have them?

I'm on a quick break from digging a 70' x 4' bed that in the spring will be for edible flowers, herbs, and salad greens. I'm almost finished just another 8 feet or so to go, then I need to plant the garlic, mow the nearby lawn and use the clippings for mulch. That was my goal for the day.

Sometimes the infection sets up hard and has to be physically removed my gently massaging the area. It helps to break it up. My drug of choice for this is LS-50. So far it has worked really well for me

NNBreeder...what is LS-50?

Vet update...he has worked on the eyes of Macaw Parrots so is somewhat familiar with the eye structure of a chicken. A cursory check on the Splash hen reveals that the eyeball itself is intact so he won't have to remove the eye. There is a lot of Gunk accumulated inside the outer lower eyelid that he will be able to remove and flush the eye area out. Same for Popeye. Both will be lightly anesthesiced so they won't feel pain. He is being extra careful with the hen since she is laying now. Even suggested putting a layer of spanish moss in the bottom of her carrier box in case she laid today. I think he is a real chicken person. Both birds will be on a stronger antibiotic for the bacterial infection... I think it is spelled "clamoxil" and a homeopathic ointment. He is going to do some online research on his DVM sites before the procedure for information on the best anesthesia and dosage to use. Should be able to pick them up around 4:30pm.

Carl, I told the vet I had a new rooster for the blue cochins girls and if he had to use Popeye as the guinea pig for the surgery in order to save the BLRW splash hen, I could cull him, but would prefer not to if possible. Since we are down to the one rooster and the two hens in your line, I want to do all that can be done to protect that genetic line you worked so hard to produce. Hopefully there will be enough fertility in the eggs produced soon that you will get some great chicks.

Kass I have a bunch of garlic to plant also. Maybe you can give me the motivation to do that!!!
Havent done anything in the yard all week, my back has been bothering me. Been into the chiropractor a couple of times this month. I feel better for about 2 days then throw something out of place again.

Also going to plant a bunch of onion bulbs that I got for 25c a pack. I know it isn't onion time, but I had some onions come up this yr in town & they had to have been left over from the year before. I figure I will put the $1 worth of bulbs in the ground, we will at least get greens off of them & if I am lucky I will have some onions in spring. If not I am out a few minutes & $1.

Been working hard on next yrs seed list. Hope I haven't left anything out. In the upcoming months as the seed catalogs arrive I am sure the list will grow & change!

I am planting "walking" type onion and garlic this year. The idea that it is perpetual appealed to me. The bulbs won't get big like store onions (or garlic) but the fact that they will keep coming year after year w/o much intervention from me was all good, I'll just use a couple more for a recipe.

My crooked neck RIR still has a crooked neck. I have seen her eat & drink today. She sleeps alot & her head is upside down while she is asleep. When she is awake she is on her feet with her head rightside up. If she gets startled she turns her head upside down.

The only change I have noticed is her face appears swollen on one side. Kinda back by her ear, not her eye area.
