Photo?

I'll take one tomorrow and post it.

Today's garden haul was 4 over full 5 gallon buckets!!!!! Okra, cukes, zuchs, pattypan, peppers hot and sweet, winter squash, melons, radish and one lone cherry tomato. I'll post some pics later. Oh by the way that doesn't include the two full arm loads of greens I fed to the girls. (in the new swanky little envelopes.)

Spent the entire day building the turkey pen. It's going to be 10'x 20' and have 2 or 3 adjoining 10' x 10' pens also, 1 will be the Bachelor Pen. I'm using wood and stockade pickets and welded wire fencing.
The Blue Silkie Hen "Liza" is indeed now known as "Larry". I swear-that comb was NOT there 3 wks ago when I got him! He does have the proper Silkie personality though, super gentle and cuddly, just wants held all the time, he snuggles up against you and goes to sleep. Someone was nice to this boy and that sort of makes me sad that he lost the only home he knew and ended up at Mary's Swap meet. He doesn't have anywhere else to go now so he'll stay here. He's been in quarantine this whole time, and was wormed, etc etc. I tried putting him with the laying girls (Sex Links, big Cochins, EE's) but they pounded his sissy little butt into the ground. Sheesh, women can be so mean

I know my Silkies will stomp him, too, and no one's going in with my Cochin babies period. So I'm hoping the 3 Polish will be nice to him, if not then I've got an extra 10' x 10' area I was going to put a bench and fire pit in in the middle of the pens I'm building right now and that can be his own little home and I'll get him his own personal little wooden dog house with a door to shut him up in at night. It's right off the deck out back and will be fenced and enclosed. I'm such a girl. I feel so sorry for him getting beat up and he was only trying to stay out of their way. He spent an hour hiding behind a board until I finally caved and rescued him.
Poor Larry. He's the definition of 'hen-pecked'. Those old biddies.

Take comfort in the fact that quite a few times even experienced breeders of champion silkies will incorrectly sex their stock. Someone told me once that the way you tell the pullets from the cockerels in young silkies is that one lays eggs and the other crows.

Evening all. It is just so nice outside right now. One of the nicest evenings in a long time. Hard to believe its going to down in the 30s by mid week!
Lazy weekeend for us but it was enjoyable.I painted the second milk stand I made today. Just need to attach a feeder to it and its ready.
My chickens are doing good. I am adjusting to the small numbers better and find I get to spend more enjoyable time with them now that there aren't so many to care for. I sure am likeing my two new ee bantam roos. Can't wait till spring to see what they throw.

Kass sounds like you are going to be busy processing garden stuff this week! Its great that you are still getting so much fresh stuff this late. I have been pulling up my turnips and radishes and giving them to the g. pigs and the chickens. Most of the plants went to tops but they aren't going to waste!

OHHH poor larry!! yes, silkies have a way of surprising you- i still want to see a pic though... you might eventually get him a girl, breeder quality not hatchery, and you might see a gentle silkie girl...
