My Grandpa ran a hotwire, about 5 in. off the ground all around the sweetcorn patch to keep the racoons out. It did the trick but the cats sure didn't appreciate it.
I remember he used short T-posts on the corners and the wire layed across old canning jars turned upside down to keep it from sagging and shorting out.
