***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Have turnips and greens cooking for either lunch or dinner. Maybe a little work in the garden the afternoon. Have things to do in the house today...taking down decorations and dismantling the tree. It's still a little cool outside form me.

Need to make an 8 inch square nest box for the little Spangled OEGB pullet...she has been doing a lot of talking and sitting on the floor of the cage instead of staying on the roost with the roo. I put a tray of wood shavings in there and she has been raking the material up around her...Good signs she may start laying soon.

Hubby is out talking with a gentleman who has come by to drive the blue pickup...looks serious. SIL drove it yesterday and deals in classic vehicles. Said we should have priced it higher because of all the work that has been done to it. DH just wants to get out of it what he has in it plus a little for his time.

Banjoe posted a gorgeous picture of his Blue Cochin hen on Facebook. Looks like my Delilah. Love that breed.

Edit: SOLD the truck. The man bought it for his wife. Isn't that sweet.

Wow! Pretty girls - Skyfire is a good example of why I need to be patient (sp - always have trouble with this word!) with my colorful pullets and roos. I could be getting rid of a great colored bird.

Since there has not been an auction in awhile and the next one is not until January 14th. It has been kind of boring. Off work until Jan 3rd since school is out, It has been hard to find to the right entertainment. Things been going well though, At least can get catchup on rest, The grandkids really enjoyed there Christmas, The oldest one which is 2 is a blast. Makes everyone laugh.

Looking forward seeing everyone again.

AuctionLover, I could've sworn you said there was one Jan 7th in Blanchard that would have a huge selection of Modern Bantams. I've been looking forward to it, did I get the date wrong?

kathrynn,
I use the small "milk crates" from teh dollar store, place a 1x4 around three sides and a piece of cardboard in the bottom. I have two extras here I will give you if would like they are great for OE and similar sized birds.

Do you have a picture of one? I have a brown bottle crate in the barn..those stackable type. Do the OEGB like a covered nest box? I hate to take what you have in supplies.

a small covered nest box does seem to work best, they can feel enclosed and safe and use them very well. when I had un-covered nest boxes they laid all over the place. I will get you a pic. I have extras because I have fewer pens and birds... They will go to waste around here now.
