***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good evening everyone! It was a long day for me but I am glad to be home! I stayed out too long once I got here & still working on warming up. I am having coffee w/Irish cream. It's helping alot.

Cowboy, I also like the tip of the day!

Got my plug in's, lights for the building. Also picked up my paint for my hive that will be here Monday! I will be busy will lots of stuff next week.

You guys are killing me with the babies! They are so cute but I am determined to wait until March to start hatching. The building will be ready too!

Oh how cool!

Sooner - your new honeybee avatar with its cute vibrating wings is really neat. I like it

We made it back from our trip to OKC, folks at American Plant Products were WAY helpful. They are a wholesaler, but will sale to those with greenhouses or hoophouses. The lady was handing me all kinds of info & making sure I had everything. Honestly very helpful! The greenhouse plastic was $100 + cheaper than I have found it online. I know there are lots of gardners on here, so thought I would share.

Hope to see most of you @ Blanchard sale tomorrow. I seriously can't buy anymore birds, we really have enough! Maybe I can just stay while they auction the junk???

Thanks! I think this is the first time that I wanted to weekend to hurry up so I can get my hive on Monday. My mentor will be out of town tomorrow so I can't ask him my questions tomorrow but that's okay since I will just have more when I see him!

Hello Sooners ! I live in Newcastle and haven't ever been to a chicken auction . Where is the auction barn at in Blanchard ? I have blue Marans , Lavender Orpintons and LF Cochins . I think an auction would be fun .

You have reached a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma

Disclaimer: Some of us are addicted to hatching eggs, attending poultry auctions and otherwise acquiring poultry. Since addicts tend to be enablers, some of us may attempt to assist you in the acquisition of more poultry of every kind and color than you ever thought possible to house.

That said, here is a link to the poultry auctions in Oklahoma, of which we are aware.

Some folks attend auctions for the conversation or the nachos, others because they are looking for a great bargain or a great bird. In any event, look around an Oklahoma poultry auction and see if anyone is wearing a t-shirt with a rooster on it, with "People Of Oklahoma Poultry Swap" printed around the rooster. They are likely one of the folks who posts on this thread. :)

Sooner, there is a bee club that meets the last Saturday of each month in McAlester. I don't know if that would ever be closer for you than Tulsa, but you might enjoy attending some meetings if convenient. It is good that you have a mentor. Opening the hive the first time can be a bit intimidating without someone experienced close by to reassure you that all is well with the bees.

Mark your calendar for March 3 - which is the Spring conference for the Oklahoma Beekeeper Association. It will be in Ponca City this year, hosted by a brand new club there.

McAlester isn't really closer but the day of meetings might work better for me. I plan to try to make some meetings but just isn't in the cards right now. I am just reading everything I can get my hands or eyes on. I am glad I found someone so close to me that doesn't mind me asking questions & looking at his stuff. The first time talking with him he showed me alot of stuff all the way down to putting a frame together. I am still working out where I want to put my hive.....

What do they do at the spring conference?

There will be speakers at the Spring conference giving presentations on various topics of interest to beekeepers. And even more fun, there will be vendors there who will have displays set up and if you order ahead of time from them, they will bring your stuff to the conference without any shipping charges.
