Guy's Tip of The Day
First I want to say thanks for all the comments on here. If my tips ever boring or you guys get tired of them, just let me know. Also anytime you something you disagree with or want to ad to, feel free to do so. Guy

There are many reasons that eggs don’t get fertile. If I have eggs that are not fertile one of the first things I do is take a pair of scissors and trim the feathers around the vent area of the rooster and hens. If that doesn't help and you have your chickens in individual breeding pens, I will switch roosters with one I know has fertiled eggs. This will help to see if it is the hen or rooster causing the problem. Like I said many things can be causing infertile eggs. Feed, pen conditions, over crowding, to many hens per rooster, weather conditions and on and on. Then what happens from the time the hen lays the egg, until it is put in the incubator (or under a hen) can all be where the problem lies.

Where we moved from I had a nice insulated brood house. Down sising sucks.

Hey Everyone!

Okay getting everything together to head for Blanchard. Have to stop in Norman and get a few things so have to leave out kind of early. Heard there is going to be a lot of birds. Which is a good thing and a bad thing. You all know what I mean.

Made a fresh batch of ricotta cheese today. Thanks Al for the recipe.

It is super easy, unfortunately I think I am going to have to make another batch since the plan is to make a huge lasagna and one batch of ricotta is just not going to be enough.

Guess I know what I will be doing when I get home tonight after I get the chickens settled, that is if I get any at the auction.

I haven't shut mine off, only hatching every other week right now, but am already getting several that I want on the ground. Should be a good year so long as I can enough of teh right birds going with the early hatches that will allow me to better judge progress and have a better selection to move forward with. I do have some considerable plans for this year that will move some stuff even further forward so I need teh numbers.
Hope Mike will have a good market for some of teh extras, because there will be plenty. I currently have 5 brooders with birds in them, and a sizable hatch for the 16th. Hope it continues at this rate.

For getting a very late start on the day I am really enjoying it. Managed to get quite a bit accomplished in this nice weather. Treated the birds for mites, lice, fleas etc. didn't see any but better to just do it than wait for a problem. great weather like this sure makes for getting a lot done. i assume everyone is working or just enjoying the temps and great weather., I for one sure hope it sticks around.
