Guy, I found that 1947 movie on a site but it wouldn't download the link was broken, the description for the movie said it was a Ma and Pa Kettle film I was wondering if that was mismarked or correct,??

Yes and no. They were in it, but not the main charectors. From what I read, this movie launched several ma and pa kettle movies that followed.

I am proud to announce that some of my stubborn hens are finally learning to go into their coops on their own now! Three of them, in fact. It's only taken weeks, .... no months ... well, some of them a couple of years to learn to do this. A light with a timer on it that comes on about an hour before sundown helped a lot. Now it's up to the others to follow suit.

Glad you found the Okie thread. Glad to have you join us on one of the most active threads on BYC!

The clinic sounds interesting.

Sure is cold here today.
Spent part of the morning cleaning out the filter trap on my disdwasher. Had it 12 years and have had no problems. Noticed there some junk on it and unscrewed the hex screws, lifted off the filter and found it was loaded with calcified stuff. Simple job..but much needed.

The broodie girls are in wire bottomed cages suspended from the wall and ceiling of the hen house to keep their fluffy bottoms cooler..hoping to break them from being broodie. Ended up putting two in each cage with food and water cups. Three of them you could take off the nest and set on the floor and they would just sit there in a trance and growl....Seriously broodie! And it is catching! There are 7 now.

Has anyone fed beef liver to your chickens for the riboflavin? Do you feed it raw or cooked. Since Quiver has curled toes I'm boosting his riboflavin. I have yogurt and spinach, but research said liver is also a great source.

For excercise and extra nutrition I will hang what is called a liver ball. Basically it is a hunk of raw liver that is tied like a roast and suspended just out of the chicken's reach so they have to make a little jump to get it. The liver is tough so a bird is only able to tear off small chunks at a time.

To suppliment as you are wanting to do I would just cut it into small pieces.

I will post what I posted on the introduce yourself forum then a reply below it:

***UPDATE: Both packages of eggs arrived safely today January 27th. If all goes well they should start hatching February 17th.***

I am a bit late in my intro but I have already won 2 auctions for eggs which will be here January 27th Friday. I am so excited.

You have found a wonderful group of folks who enjoy hatching poultry, attending poultry auctions and otherwise acquiring poultry.

Once you have hatched your chicks, let us know what additional varieties you would like to add to your flock - someone will likely have what you are looking for

I know you well enough and talked to you enough times to know I like ya!

Well thank goodness! It's about time.
Alright. Who wants some Guineas? I've got 5 but I've had the one boy for 12 yrs so he's staying plus another boy for company for him (I am NOT keeping the loudmouth females!) So there's 3 that I'll gladly give away. They're just toooooo noisy for me. I've got one caught and am working on getting the other 2 caught.
Any takers???

Good Morning! I am so happy it is Friday~ This day can't get over fast enough!

Wayne I think it would be fun to do something like that but with out the press it wouldn't be very easy. I don't think Nana & Papa are up to it these days. I am always looking into something new. LOL.

DD had lots of homework last night so she is glad today is Friday. I think DH got the walls done but I didn't get to go out & look at it. I will today when I get home.

I'm not good at movie trivia, actually I am not good at anything that requires a memory!

Sooner do you have any of the Foxfire books? Lots of good onfo in them about Molasses making. The press looks like it has fluted rollers in it and with imagination should be easy to make.

It's hard to believe it's Friday already. I'm taking a Light Sussex hen, one of Victoria's test group, to her middle school today. It's science project presentation time, and this is my chance to provide a visual aid. As chicken wrangler, I get to hold the hen, walk around the room, point to various parts of the chicken, and produce a baby wipe from my pocket in the event of a poop. The rest is all up to DGD. She made display boards, wrote a paper, crunched the numbers on live weight before and after feeding supplements, and measured eggs. I don't know what her conclusions are, yet, but I'm anxious to find out. I know from my perspective, the group that got the supplements appears cleaner, is laying better, and has more spunk.

Too cool!

yeah but you and carl have only met me! wait till you get to know me.

Actually EVERYBODY loves me!!!!! i am a loveable person!

uh oh, there is that danged lightning agan!

Jim,
I think you get a good feel for a person in teh first 10 minutes and after the lengthy conversation we had when you came to visit, and the fact that my two dogs liked having you around and did not run you off your can't be a bad guy... them dogs are a real good judge of folks and have refused entry to the house, yard to many a few were not allowed out of teh car and there was no calling them off. The older one even broke a window after after getting out of his crate somehow to run someone out teh yard who he did not like.
So long story short, I think you passed that test.
