***OKIES in the BYC III ***

So when it comes time for ducks and geese to make a nest to sit on do they prefer "cave like" areas ? or open topped in clumps of weeds and or brush, I have several laying hens and so far am only finding a couple nests the first one I found is drowned now with the little rain we've gotten I was wondering if they would just pull more material into the nest and keep building it up as they needed to but so far that doesn't look to be the case I was thinking that mounting tires cut and flipped on posts high enough to not have to ever drown, I'd like to keep them offered whatever would be most natural to them for nesting areas

Yeah I think that's the one I'm just not buying anything from them other than the fingers if I can keep from it, I already have the fingers and Christina helped me out with a motor to try out I need to get the tub decided on and holes drilled in it, once it starts it should go pretty quickly If things go like I'm hoping I have my sights on an old steam pot I think would make the best tub for it I just have to do some horse trading LOL

Are you wanting to build a plucker? Why not just roll some sheet metal and taper it somewhat so teh feathers can fall out the bottom, drill the holes prior to rolling and welding, That could be a real interesting project, if you need help just yell this way.

Anyone have a plasma cutter here on the thread? or close to central Okieland I can drive a bit I need a round plate cut out of a square piece I have and some holes bored through it after it is made into a circle if anyone is interested I can pay for the work...

Thanks, I appreciate that, I have been watching all the video clips I can find and a slot along one side at the bottom seems to be best for channeling the feathers out in a controlled area a chute takes them into a bucket with drain holes and looks like that might be the easiest way to gather them to go into compost or whatever use you might have for them I think I feather pillow is in my future if I can ever get my sewing machine set up LOL
