***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Getting some rain this morning, at this rate we may actually have a normal spring. The winter was real mild so bug control will be a problem come summer but I am enjoying the weather as it is now.

NanaKat,
after candling the eggs I believe you may need to pluck the Blue wyandotte hen, a few of her eggs were fertile but not many. All others seem good so that would lead me to believe it is her and not the male covering her.

Today at 17:35 (5:35pm) my dad, Eldon Koch passed away. He had pretty muched slipped into a comma for the last week and finally gave up the battle today. Dad was 81 years old and lived life like he wanted too. Thanks for those on here that have asked about him along.

Guy, I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. My prayers are with you and the family as you deal with his loss. May the memories you hold in your heart give you comfort.

Thank you Carl. I will do that...she does have a fluffy bottom.
I've moved her to the pen with the CW roo and CW hens and was thinking I needed to do that with the rooster also. Sure hoping to get a Blue CW with a single comb......

Sorry for your loss Cowboy, it's good you can celebrate a life well lived.

Didn't POOPs used to be in late March or April I did notice you guys made the news the year I didn't go of course :)

Okay, already up to four turkey poults, 5 st run misc banties, my 6 orps and 5 misc ducks should be in tomorrow, giddy with anticipation! I have a stomach bug so I can't get the outside coop (aka that really old barn that's falling apart) put together so, I have to figure out an indoor solution at least till this weekend probably. I forgot how much fun this is.

I picked up two of the Barred Rock pullets recently advertised on Tulsa craigslist. They are well grown and chipper. They were free ranged, locked up at night, and came running when their mistress called them. The couple I bought them from were super friendly. Right now I keep them in a dog kennel at night and a light weight "grazing" pen for much of the day. I did clip their wings and our back yard is completely fenced.

I can have up to seven chickens in Tulsa. If no neighbours have complained buy the time I get a proper coop built I will get some more hens. I hope to find some Australorps and Orphingtons. If the neighbours still haven't complained I could probably get by with increasing the flock to nine or so.

Right now the hens are for eggs and to have another reason to get out of the house and move around. If this city living really doesn't work out I would like to have a place where I could be a breeder. Production testing and selective breeding, even on a small scale can be fun.

The dog, that is Gracie, she has been a buddy for the past ten years, really laid-back for a Jack Russell, not real high maintenance.
