***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Just had a mess here, some leaking, shaking and some blown open gates. Many around us lost windows. Can't get a hold of some friends whose business was basically taken out according to the news. I know they wouldn't have been in the building at that time though, so they should at least be okay. Probably should go check my property out there, but really want to go to Pryor this weekend. :/

Thanks to mefordz, I'm able to scratch "locate bantam cornish" off my to do list.

Any ladies on here ever operate tractors? I had said I didn't want to buy a tractor until DH was ready to retire. The guy in town rents his tractor for $25 an hour so I figure that is good enough for as often as we need a tractor. However, some how we are still tractor shopping. My worry is DH will deploy or leave for extended times & I am not certain I will use the tractor. I have mastered the zero turn mower -- at first I was scared to try it..... It is much easier than it looks! I can also pull a trailer (and back it up in an open field). I imagine I can handle the tractor, if it isn't too rough on my back.

tractors are easy. much slower movements than cars and trucks. The only time I get spooked is working on a hill at a bad angle.
Understand the scary hills. We have one by our barn I won't even let the girls drive their four-wheelers on. DH says whats the big deal, the hills are the best part. I remind him our kids have not yet had a broken bone, no need to start now. I imagine the tractor & I can learn to be friends. I just have to not let it intimidate me. I was gifted a seed savers exchange yearbook today!! It is a thousand times worse than any seed catalog. I seriously need to close the book & put it away until fall! I am picking out seeds off every page. The book is as big as the Lawton phone book. Any heirloom seed you could ask for is in this book! Oh my..... I could end up in big trouble! At least seeds are small, and more useful than collecting glass figurines or something else that collects dust.

I had spent a bit on bedding and in the last few months I started using leaves that have gathered up in low areas the chickens had a blast picking through it for bugs and when they are through and it's time for more the stuff makes great mulch or compost for the garden, If you live in town just make runs with a truck the evening before trash runs on Monday (or whatever day it is) and look for those bags that you can't miss that are full of grass clippings an or leaves and just dump them in the pens just pick out any pop bottles and candy wrappers you spot and lest the birds do the rest LOL

Edited to say" I've been using lawn clipping for nest boxes and offer it's the best thing you can use better than hay or straw as good as wood chips which was what I was using before,
just make sure that it doesn't contain any goatheads or stickers, you'll spot them easy enough
Watch lawn clippings with chemical sprays.

What kind of donations? I am sure our family can come up with something, lol.
Anything from eggs to chicken related items...even live birds. Items raffled will bring in proceeds for futrue POOPS events.

We have a Kabota that is really easy to operate. pedals for forward and reverse and power steering.

Beautiful eggs PoCo! Amasing how talented some people are and others like me ...welll what can I say. Does a straight line supposed to have curves!lol

We missed all the storms today. Mostly north of us in Kentucky. Lots of damage there.

Been running all day tying up loose ends so we can head out about five in the morning. Headed to Okla! Fast trip ,motherinlaws birthday sat and we need to check on her. Won't be anytime for chicken looking this trip. But lookout in june!lol. Might try and sneek off to the adair county sale friday night if I can tho. Are you going to be there Joe and PoCo? Really hate that Iam going to miss the big Amish sale this weekend. Seems I almost always miss this one for the same reason! Oh well guess I can say the prioritys are right even if the wants aren't!lol.
I took about four dozen eggs over to my buddys for him to set this afternoon. Caqn't wait to start getting chicks hatching out. Gotta call Sandhill tomorrow, apparently my order still hasn't gotten there(3 weeks) . And they won't do phone or e-mail orders. Looks like they would jion the new age if they want to run a business!

Gotta go do some packing.catch you guys later

i will be there and hope to get to vesit with ya for a littel wille

Hi Joe! I'm candling eggs on Saturday morning. I'll let you know how they're doing. I'm really excited about raising these birds. I wish I could go to the sale Friday, but I got an invitation to hear Mother Miriam speak on Saturday morning in Collinsville, so I can't be out late Friday night. Let us know how it goes. Take a few pictures if you get a chance. I always like to see what's been in a sale. I get to kick myself for not going most times.
