***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Top 5 Juniors

I recognize a couple of those youngsters!

Can't wait to hear about the show & see some pics.
Dh went & bought a tractor today with boxblade, brush hog & disc. I spent an hour or so & brush hogged about 2 acres. It is easy enough to operate. Not sure if I can change the implement on my own but I am sure I will learn! Here is a pic from my phone..... If anyone happens to know of a cheap potato digger I could use one, not for potatoes-- it will be used to run along the edge of my plastic mulch & help pull it up when the season is over. I am sure there will be other much needed things to go w the tractor. Dh is out playing with the box blade, I am sure he will be out until dark, possibly longer if the headlights are bright enough.

aw man, now I really am jealous! Hubby was looking online this morning, "Hey honey come look at this one!" "Seen it, someone on BYC already bought it." HAHAHAHA

Aren't you guys funny! Mezford was his self yesterday & was proud to announce that only two of the juniors were shorter than me! Good thing I like being short! You will have to come up with new material

Kenny you did a great job! Thanks for setting it up & helping out your local 4H, I wish there were more folks like you!!!

Of you guys that were there did anyone buy & take home stuff??? If so what?

Wait???? Langshan Man did you help us with getting the first pair of Cornish or find us the awesome young man with the others? I'm just sure I talked to you now, but I'm terrible with names as it is and throw in screen names, well then you lose me.

Oops, missed him. Is Langshan Man Kenneth? Didn't get to talk to him much as he was busy with the judge, but the lady who bought the Cornish pair is thrilled. She missed out on the auction pair because she didn't understand, but the announcer hooked us up with his son and she was able to get a trio as well as lots of good chicken education. She has a whole new appreciation for what it means to raise poultry.

Oh, Tony O, I used a kennel panel over the top as well. Did you mean I should lay chicken wire over that?

Thanks for posting the show pictures! I sure wish I could have gone. I think it would have been a great opportunity to mingle and see some really nice chickens.

Joe - You must be running on no sleep at all. How do you do it? I think I need at least six hours a night or I'm a cranky, cranky, cranky person. Will there be a sale at Coweta this month?

Coyotes are going to be a problem this season. We have seen a few at mid day by the east pond. I think the mild winter is going to tax us in many ways this year. They haven't bothered any of the calves yet. I hope there are enough bunnies and possums out there to keep them from getting too hungry. Skunks must have had a productive winter as well. My live traps have been occupied at least once a week by stinky visitors. I'm really tired or skunks. I'd rather catch possums. Possums don't spray gallons of yuck when you pick up the trap.

I'm off to mass with two laying hens in a travel cage in my truck. The hens are for a family at church. They lost a hen recently, so I'm replacing her with the choice of one or both. I think they have room for two. They have a big family, and I'm guessing they crack 10 to 12 eggs when they cook eggs for breakfast each morning. I should start a poll: Have You Ever Taken Your Chickens to Church?

Those are great pics!

I'm jealous of the tractor, how did you find it? I've just been lurking craigslist and another site like it, but for farm stuffs.

I need some ideas. After buying supplies yesterday to fix our wellhouse it's making me rethink my coop plans. Building supplies are a lot more expensive than they were 5 years ago. I did notice the metal sheds at Lowe's, it would be cheaper to get the cheapest of them and it would be bigger than what I was planning on building. Anyone ever converted one of these for a coop? The only concern I have is the thin metal wouldn't be much for keeping the warmth in during winter. Do you think a heat lamp or two would be enough to keep a 8x10 thin sheetmetal shed warm enough in the winter?

I don't think warmth in the winter would be nearly as big a problem as cooking them in the summer.

Lets say i am now DEEP in the modern game
