***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Glad you were able to get the birds. There was a few people pulling lots of stuff & The auction crew is still learning how to run the auction. I think it will improve.
Did you take the roo? Did the guy say they were bantam? Bantams would work best while you are still in town, since bared rocks can get HUGE! They looked small for the roo to already have such developed feathers, only reason i thought they might have been bantams. They were pretty birds. Even the roo.
I really liked the single roo that went for $2. He had nice colors & beard but he looked lethargic, and I wasn't bringing home a sick bird even if it was pretty.

all auctions are learning experiances, for all parties. i am particular about where i go, i dont mind trying new sales but i am picky about the way things are sold and the way they are handled.

i have been to a few sales where they didnt have a p.o. fee, and feel it encourages "backouts" by sellers after the fact. auctioneers a lot of times dont know a lot about the items they are selling, so they depend on the seller to mark what is being sold properly. unfortunatly all to often it doesnt work out that way.

i have learned over the years to watch who is checking in what, and who p.o.'s everything. that way i know what not to bid on.

the sale in vinita is only 3 months old, but the auctioneer and those of us that work the sale are well experianced at it, so we catch things pretty quickly. unfortunatly we dont catch everything. and we have been known to be wrong every so often.

we usually nip problems in the bud, and hope we can keep everybody happy. with what we get paid, we have to try.

Oh and how could I leave out the guy trying to stop hwy traffic w/ a chainsaw at 2 in the morning.

Anyone else catch the theme here, almost all my most stupid in action moments have been coutesy of a guy ................................ just saying!

I could hear ok, but I did hear a lot of other people saying they couldn't hear. I was standing up maybe that helped. I will go to this auction again as I said. I believe in letting people work out the kinks in anything new, and it is fairly close to me. I was standing right by the man that was selling the birds and did not see him say anything about them not going high enough. I think he could have made himself more clear. I think I was more upset with the man selling the birds then the people running the auction. However, they seemed a bit lost about what happened at first. I think I will just be happy I got some pretty birds, and be glad there is an auction near me every month so I don't have to drive 2 or three hours :)

Ah. Then that is something the auctions folks will have to work out. Most auctions won't allow that. You have to PO right away. Once it leaves the table It's sold.

Went to the Newcastle auction. But I was lost and felt out of place so we left pretty quick. They had a gorgeous pair of Buff Op's I wanted and the Silkies. Oh my gosh!! But I didn't have a clue what to even do. lol But if anyone noticed, I was the one with the bright orange red hair. I know I stuck out like a sore thumb lol

You should have seen the first time my wife bid on a calf at the Covington cattle sale. She leaned over and told me that she really wanted this little Angus so I told her to bid on it. She very slowly raised her bidders card, so slow in fact that it had jumped 50 dollars but she still got it at a pretty good bargain. I watch the auction reports on cattle so I wasn't going to let her overbid.

Halter broke the calf grew it up to about 600 pounds and took it right back to the same sale. That little heifer bested the steers on price that day.

No I went ahead and just got the two hens. No he didn't say they were bantams but now that you mention it they are small for Barred Rocks. We have a BR and he is really big. The coloring on them is so pretty. I will take some pics tomorrow. Yeah that one for $2 did look a bit too tired. He had nice coloring though.

I sure will keep my eye out for this guy and make sure I don't bid on anything of his anymore. He pulled out everything he put in the auction it looked like.

Loving your stories!!!

Nana I think you are going to need more birds when you finish building! Looks like it will be a nice setup!
Thanks....it doubles the inside space.
I've ordered 3 dozen Belgian d'Anvers eggs (6 eggs for each of 6 color varieties)....caught the d'Anvers bug at the Shawnee show back in January. Plus we have been having Carl hatch a bunch of our Spangled OEGB, LF Columbian Wyandottes, Blue/Lavendar Cochins and Cochin eggs from Iowa and the Aussie/Cochins cross. And, I'm working on getting more Blue Wyandotte, Blue Columbian.

Showgirls are NNs crossed with silkies. I think of them as the toy poodles of the poultry world. Mine are probably 14 to 16 generations down, so have been improved greatly for type and beauty. You can google for them, but be sure to put "chickens" right after "showgirls."

Trying to catch up, but I swear it just crawls and I've got like 100pages to go.

Do you think there would be any interest at POOPs in a nipple/bucket waterer? We made a 3 gallon one for the kids' 4H auction and almost had no takers. But I like to think they just didn't understand what it was.

Have to work on my needs/wants list and get a better idea on numbers. I think I've got someone who can come with, but we'll need to figure out some kid situations.

Just got back from Newcastle auction. No learning experiance here, these boys put on a top knotch auction. LOTs of eggs, chicks and chickens. Come home with 2 game hens and 2 game roosters. Plus the 49 chicks Carl hatched out for me (and of course 2 extra grandkids) Just got the chicks stuck in the brooder, time to call it a day. Was good to see BYCers at NewCastle, Goodnight

Lol, too funny on the stupid defination, that fits my defination also, but have another name than stupid for it !

hey hey hey! that is my other job! i am the " stupid moment " king!

actualy i define stupid people as the people that think they know everything, and refuse to acknowledge they dont.
