***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Wow this thread moves FAST!

Yep I am in Blanchard... not very creative is it?

I have EE, Buffs Ors and a lot of unknowns - from Atwoods and some from Ideal... half bannies and half full sized. I have ducks old fashion white, buff runners, and some very small black ones. I have geese a pair coming of saddle back poms, a pair of white turkeys, and a few french keets... I am in downtown Blanchard... lol... and have the neighbors all scratching their heads...

I would love to get into silkies, frizzles, and anything with feathered feet or a unique color!

I got 5 girls and 1 boy out of the Faverolles group you hatched for me-let's see if you can pull that off again

I'll go sprinkle them with Pullet dust, I think I have some left over...

Ooooh! Good thing I caught you in time then, huh? I might've ended up with too many boys otherwise!
Wheew. That was close.

I think it is my peahens that make the sound like a goose honking. I have been near their pen when the noise was being made and the peacock was just standing there as if to say "don't look at me! I didn't say that."

I can not even imagine setting that many eggs, I do good to keep up with the 2 small incubators that are goinf, esp. with staggered hatches.
Cjarvis and /or anyone else incubated turkey eggs ?

Although my turkeys haven't laid any eggs yet this year, in the past when I have incubated them I treated them like chicken eggs and just left them in the incubator an extra week to get to the 28 days. My only advice on poults is they need high protein and good ventilation, without being drafty.

Anyone on here think that peacocks could be kept quite"ish" to be kept in town?

I think the only way to keep the peafowl quiet would be to relocate them to the country during mating season. Except for a few weeks in the Spring and again in early Fall, my peafowl aren't very noisy. During those few weeks however, they are very vocal.

that all depends on what you call "quietish". they arent like roosters, they arent a constant noise, but, they can be very loud!

mostly i guess it depends on the neighbors. mine didnt mind the noise as long as the birds were penned up. if they got out it litterly got messy everywhere!

peafowl are nastier than turkeys or waterfowl.

most people like to see them, i almost always have people in my yard on weekends.

That vocal ... hummmmmm.... would so be worth it though.. I am 3 blocks from city hall so need to remember they are so close to me! Already with the birds I have I am pushing it... . ummm

If Blanchard doesn't have any ordinances that prohibit certain kinds of poultry, I don't see a distinction between them and a rooster or a guinea - both of which can be noisy. I will say that at night, the sound of the peafowl's calls really carries a long distance.

There is not one right now.. just with my city council dont want to give them a reason to start one either! Man .. would love some peacocks but I really dont think that I want tooo many noisy fellows No roosters here... at least right now. Not that my neighbors would mind but the city is the issue..

The little guys and gals I have right now are doing amazing - feels good to have fowl again... and a veggie garden, and fruit trees... it is really what I moved out this way for!
