***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass banana peppers have always way out produced my bells. 5 or 6 plants would allow me to pick enough to use & freeze. Plus they take up much less room than bells. If you have grown jalapeños my banana preform similar to them. I didn't order any new banana pepper seed this year, since I still had some old seed. My old seed didn't germinate, so no bananas this yr for me!

Is this a bad egg??
I would give the egg a little more time to be certain. Is it larger than the rest? Maybe it is a double yolker? Just a guess. I hatched one double yolker. One chick fully formed, but the other stopped forming after a week or so. The fully formed chick was really weak & didn't make it out of the hatcher. DD candled eggs before putting them on lock down yesterday & one had a HUGE air sack so she was going to toss it. I picked it up & it was chirping! So needless to say the egg she thought was a dud is hatching tonight. So far 9 have hatched. I am expecting to wake to a few dz fuzzy new chicks.

She'll be 3 in May, I've got pictures on my other computer. I can send them to you in the morning. She's gold (not red). A real sweetheart, you can do anything to her and she follows you like a puppy. The miniature donkey is the same exact way.

That would be great. Any chance you'd seperate them?? I've been looking for a pony for my grandaughters. Surely someone needs a guard donkey! Those little buggers are some of the best guard animals I've ever seen. My dad's used to lure the neighbors dogs inside the fence by running from them. As soon as they got them to chase them in far enough, they'd turn and try to stomp them to a pulp. Truly amazing how smart they are.

Its only 4 days in the bator. Early I know. Curiosity got the best of me. Its a very small egg. The smallest one actually. I only looked in a few eggs. Two looked like this. One was just a small spot with lots of veins and one looked pretty porous. I'm no expert at this. :(

Well actually I've got a lone Barbado sheep here that missed them like crazy when they left. It actually might work fine for me to keep the donkey here with the sheep and place the little horse with you. The mare doesn't seem as attached to the donkey as he is to her so she'd be fine.
Sounds like a pretty good plan to me. I have to find out from my husband when we're picking them up.
Edit, she's not pony sized though, she's under 30" (both of them are).
BBacres, here's a good link showing candling pics:

45 Days to POOPS

Got the rest of the garden turned over, transplanted several prennials, mowed, weedeated.
Today I moved all the birds(parakeets, finches) out to the shed.
I have four baby parakeets the gerbils and hampsters out there too. Already had the g.pigs and baby chicks in there. Its looking like a pet shop!lol.
Still only have one hen setting.
Rabbits are doing good. My big flemish doe is or was due last night,I think she is waiting for the weather change. One dwarf has four dwarf/lionheads,and another dwarf has two that are pure dwarf. They are so cute with their tiny ears.
The new pigeon flock is busy mateing up and starting nest.

NaNa sounds like your busy a a beaver, what with chicks, gardening and calving. Don't wear yourself out to much!

And you think I'm busy???

We got 4 and 2/10 inches, not counting what we just got tonight.

Thanks for the idea, I'll try w/ the seeds I have left, nothing to loose w/ it anyway, I have the seeds.

I haven't checked our rain guage yet for this latest rain. We also had 4.25 inch rain from the first day.

If it makes you feel better I set my peppers outside and forgot to bring them in before I left. I drowned them for sure, oh well.

If you dumped the water out of the tray, they should drain and some of them should make it okay.

Has anyone had good success direct seeding pepper plants in the garden? I have some maraconi seeds I really wanted plants from, and can't find that variety for sale locally as a plant.
Yes, you can start them in the garden...they will produce fruit later in the season, but will produce until frost.

If I get one of those cool Wally World plastic topped seed starter things do I still have enough time for starting peppers indoors?

Yes. These will fruit earlier than the ones started in the garden.
