***OKIES in the BYC III ***

anyone in the market for a few young OE cockrells?
Jim, I have two at least two young Birchen cockrells that I don't like the breast lacing on..

If you don't find a home holler dh will come get them. They have to be better tick eaters then chasing those darn guineas like we did today! We let them out 2 weeks early, lets just say that won't happen again!!!!

We spent all day outside working on A-Frame coops. Got 3 partially finished and the lumber cut for a 4th. We hope to get at least the 3 finished tomorrow. I want to clean a few coops so this will give us a place to put the birds while I clean.

Hey everyone!! It was such a beautiful day me and the kids spent the day at Fort Cobb with my dad. I froze though. Not quite short and tank top weather to be on the water. lol. Came home and realized my other doe is pregnant. She's got her udder coming in. So now I got a kid due in a week or two (she's pretty small) and then some due in the summer. I'm super excited!! Explains why my bucks been really calm now. His job is done and no more peeing on everything!!! Thank goodness cause that was too much! So if anyone is looking into buying some Nigerian Dwarf kids I'll be having some available. :)

Around here and based on what you raise the birds for determines what vacinations are feasable.
You may want to vacinate against meriks, based on breed, Coryza if the birds are not too young or too old,
I prefer to breed for the imunity and let the weak ones fall out. The most common stuff a person has problems with there are no vacines for. Such as infectious sinusitis, respiratory ailments, etc. Best bet is control the parasites and stress and the birds will likely stay healthy, so long as they have good feed and clean dry runs.
Thank you for the advice. I was beginning to get paranoid! I feed high quality feed and their runs and coops are very dry and clean (well the inside runs are dry right now!). I clean runs and coops often and after learning about oxine, I have ordered a gallon. I am actually quite picky on the runs and coops. Of course my DH and kiddos would say it is more like OCD!!

Blanchard starts @5. Think they started a few minutes early last auction. It will go until 1 or 2 am. Maybe longer.
Oh my it is a good thing I asked, I was thinking 6. I am looking forward to a good auction night. I have really been bit by this auction bug!

That's kinda high for a white swan. Don't need another one now anyway.

Went past my junk pile back in Febuary and get the stink eye.

Here's why several weeks later.

Just more fuzzy butts to brighten your day.

Hope y'all have a good one.

very neat birds! i don't think I've ever seen swan babys. What are they called? Goose= gosling, duck= duckling, guinea= keets, swan= ?

Jaxon was able to catch the 2 runner ducks that were loose, so I will be taking all of the brown runners to Mary's swap in the morning. I am going to keep only the blue runners so that we can hatch out one-color ducklings. I put 8 eggs under each of 2 broody hens this week, from my blue NN / madagascar game pen. I am hopeful there will be blue NNs hatching in 3 weeks. There is still one hen trying to go broody, so will set any more eggs from the blue NNs later this week.

Here are some pics of our new babies. Checked the calender and the oldest chick is 2 weeks and the youngest chick is a week old and the others fall somewhere in between.

What cute fuzzies!

All my current chicks are from the bantams I got from artsyrobin last year. I ordered 10 australorp pullets from the local feed store and have 5 muscovy duck eggs in the new incubator with 13 of our guinea eggs. In the old incubator I have 39 guinea eggs that my Mom gave me so we may be swimming in guineas here in a few weeks!

We are just loving all the new babies and planting projects in Spring!

What's your plan for the keets? I'm on the hunt for guineas

Look what I found today in the hens' nest. The small, oddly shaped egg was laid by a two year old hen that hasn't laid an egg like that before. I thought those kinds of eggs were associated with young hens, but here one is from an older hen. It's hard as a rock, almost.

Here's an iris that bloomed last week when I was at the lake house. There were lots more budding when I left. I hope to get to see them all in bloom next week.

What a strange egg, never seen one like that!

sorry carl, this is medicine week. 800 bucks with insurance is killing me, and the wife.

thank god a few are only for 90 days! i couldnt afford them for long.

That's crazy! $800!?!?

Can't add anything to Carl's advice unless you have a torch handy. LOL

But one thing that needs to be checked is where the auger bolts onto the output shaft. Make sure there are no markings on the head of the bolt indicating that it is a hard bolt. What you want is just a regular no grade bolt or what is commonly called a shear bolt.

That is to assure that the bolt will snap if you hit something hard instead of taking out gears in the gear box.

And as always be safe and do a Call Okie to have underground utilities flagged before sticking the auger into the ground. Not every line is marked with markers in the fence line.
If you want to, bring it over to where I work on Monday and I bet that I can get it to pop loose. We are 1/2 mile N of Kingfisher on the West side of the road. We are pretty stacked out but I will make the time to do it.

Thanks! I think I'm going to get DH to pull it off the tractor in the morning so I can drop it by my grandfather's to see if he can make it work, if not I might just take you up on that! Have to have a working digger before calling 811

There were no bolts on it, we're going to have to get some, where would I find that kind?

Swanlings??? I don't know it just sounded funny, of course considering I have only had a few hours sleep everything sounds really funny, except the stupid roosters crowing. I think I am going to go back to bed. Will post the Wish/Offer list later.
