***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Went to the Lawton Tractor Supply today. They some really sick looking chicks. They had Duramycin-10 right next to the brooders sitting open and it was obvious it was in the water too. They were still selling them as far as I can tell. Can't really tell by the pics but they weren't moving much even when touched. There were a few that were face down. At first I thought they were just basking.

I just can't stand to see this...

I've been known to make noise about animals that aren't treated right. I just called them and told them to go check their chicks. While he was walking over there he said they were all doing fine. I told him he better look closer. Then he said "well, some of them are sleeping". I mentioned the duramycin and he said that it's out there because it goes in their water. I told him if he put his hand in there they probably wouldn't move and run around like they're supposed to and then I told him somebody that knows what they're doing better check them out or they were gonna lose them all. He thanked me for calling and said they would look into it. Sure.............

This year I have noticed a lot of chicks at Atwoods that are not as thrifty as they should be. I wonder if the breeders are scrimping on their quality of feed since the grain prices are so high?

I imagine that most of the breeders are under contract with the hatcheries with little or no wiggle room for rising costs.

all the more reason to buy breeder stock rather than hatchery- sad though... i have to have hubby go into the orchelens so i don't come home with a bunch of rescues!

Captain is looking much better, eating good, i gave him some of the molting suppliment i use with the house birds when they are molting, it has extra protien and vitamins in it, he is on day 3 of tylan, amazing to see the difference- danced and crowed this morning

RetiredArmyWife, the Lawton TSC has some healthy looking birds.

ETA:
I should mention our local Atwoods and TSC get their birds from different hatcheries. Atwoods from Ideal in TX and TSC from Privett in NM.

Catching up on the thread this evening while enjoying beef stroganoff for dinner. Good info on the pox and canker treatments. Thanks NNbreeder for all the helpful info on those. I saved that to my computer in case I need it in the future.

Sounds like the Blanchard auction had some good buys. I almost went, then changed my mind at the last minute.

TonyO - Love, love, love those baby swans (or cygnets.) Too cute!

I've been enjoying watching the mama hen take her little babies all over the yard. She's a good mama and is very watchful. It's amazing how quickly watching them will put a smile on your face.
